Ok, Alan, I've joined up. Maybe this will help me get over the summer doldrums to splash some bright colors loosely on the paper.

Okay, signed up....
gives me a reason to go upstairs and paint a little...
I am NOT (REPEAT, NOT!!) a loose painter at all, maybe this will loosen me up a bit...
In fact, I start out at times, feeling nice and fluid, and open to what will happen on the paper, and before you know it, I am hunched over, nose about 1/4" from the paper, painting in something as detailed as little bitty perforations on wing-tipped shoes or something..... LOL
Maybe I can break that habit a bit here....
so much inspiration, so little time.... argggghhhhh

Gulp..... It is with great trepidation that I have signed up for this. However, when I broke my shoulder, and couldn't paint normally, CharM suggested I try using my left hand. I gave it a shot, and, surprise, surprise, actually sorta like the results. (Now that's depressing, isn't it!

So, any;way, I have posted two lefties in the project file. C&C always hoped for.

Thanks for looking

Hi Alan

Just to add to your project. Not good by no means but was fun
Here is my entry # 1 As old Arnold would say " I'll Be Back " ;)

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/23-Aug-2003/21575-Alanproject1.jpg

Well gave it a shot. This is a 10 minute loosey goosey painting. Not bold enough tho and I spent too much time on a bit of detail that really messed up lol .. Was fun tho. My first one too with DaVinci's.

Neato !!

Thanks for the project Alan - it promises to help us toward something we all seem to want badly.

...painting in something as detailed as little bitty perforations on wing-tipped shoes...

You are too funny Holly. I'd be laughing even harder, except - this describes me too.

Thanks Johnnie and Kathy - I couldn't do that with my good hand to save my soul!! Get to tense trying to be perfect. But with left hand, who cares??? Guess that's the secret for me.

By the way, I posted reARtman's and Johnnie's entries, and I don't see it here. Hmm, perhaps in cyberspace somewhere.

Anyhoo - Artman, I just love the loose serenity of this landscape. You do these so well.

And Johnnie - what colors!! New DaVinci paints, too. Dang, must seem like Christmas. Waiting to see more, all.

Thanks for your kind comments pastelist and gilberte. I only wish I could do this with my right hand!! The painting ws done from RL. My kid, Lori, brought me some silk flowers to set up to paint a la Charles Reid. Lots of different colors and different flowers. Blues, yellows purples pinks, and these wonderful fall reds, oranges and brownish purples. This bunch went beautifully with a reddish pitcher I have, as well as the terra cotta wine cooler. Amazing what a little ingenuity can do. Can't wait to try these when the doc says my shoulder has healed enough to do small motor stuff.

Dang, I have NO patience for this. :D

Love this entry, and how the background is very loose and the artist is painted a little tighter bringing attention to your main subject. The way her hat is covering her eyes makes her seem to be in her own little world concentrating hard on just her painting. The colors are pleasant.

Really great painting. Your colors are so brilliant similar to Alan. I just got DaVinci paints couple of weeks ago and would like to know how you get such solid vibrant blues and browns etc.

Example the bow of the boat and the sail on the left. How do you get such solid color??

I have only tried one painting which was terrible and dont want to waste paint. Do you paint the colors just once or do you do repeated washes to obtain the vibrant solidity of the colors.

I really like this.

Both of your entries are interesting as you left out the background washes and still made them work. Simple and loose. I really like the nude just for it's simplicity and mix of colours. No distractions.

Man, does anyone else have a hard time trying to decide WHAT subject to start with?
everytime I think of doing this one.and I will, I can only see all the layers/details...how do you paint loose in WC and still have your subject stand out from the background?
I suppose one could do pale BG, deep toned foreground?
I bought a new large 3" brush for washes and need to try it..
anyone help with suggestions? not figures please...:)

I suppose one could do pale BG, deep toned foreground?
I bought a new large 3" brush for washes and need to try it..
anyone help with suggestions? not figures please...:)

Gnu well all I can say to you is pick something then paint it fast with large brushes this should get you started....you can always put a few details in with small brushes when you have the main part of the painting done....good luck!

Okay - Maybe a bit more loose for this particular project.. this is a stunning piece also. Your pallet is so vibrant and full of movement. !!!!!

As for this one I am not sure I can make it much looser but I will try...

Cheryl: You can upload in BOTH Wcolor forum and projects, but you have to upload in projects so people can access all project paintings, and so you can add your comments about your own painting there.
Here's how:
Go to the 'Projects' button at the top of any WC page. You will find this specific project, along with a list of 'links'. First, choose 'join project' (or something to that effect). When you have an entry ready to post, go again to 'Projects', again choose this specific one, and in the list of 'links', you will click 'post final entry images' or something to that effect (you can also post progress images.)
Because this project is being DISCUSSED in the Wcolor forum, you will also see the project description and comments there, but you WON'T SEE THE LINKS TO POST, BROWSE, VIEW PARTICIPANTS, etc.
Once you get to the "PROJECTS" forum, it will make a lot more sense to you.....
I do hope this info helped you!

A good one maybe next time leave out the lines on the building, just suggest ... the people in the painting are loose enough.

my progress shot..poppies..
I have done most wet in wet, and added in some furhter colour dry..
I plan to wet the vegetation area and add in greens...if I wet round the flowers, would this be a good way to proceed?
any advice gratefully received..3 colours used here, with a tiny touch of blue in the motherwash...

I really enjoyed the little surprise that popped up when the large painting opened—the fish weren't very visible in the thumbnail. Nice colors and shapes in the water area.

Hi Ann,

What a bright happy painting you started off with in the Watercolor Forum, perfect for this project. Looks like you splashed the blues and oranges and yellows on the paper, then developed your chickens from there. Very Expressionistic in feeling.

Definitely worth framing this one. It fits the perameters of this project beautifully, it is bold and loose! Love the limited palette and how you've used the white of the paper to show the water splashing. Very interesting composition.

Oh my gosh, you actually got recognizable objects painting with your non-dominant hand! Amazing! I doubt I could do that. This is a really neat, loose painting! I like the composition and the fresh look of the brush strokes, maybe because you couldn't overwork it??? Well done. Hope the shoulder is getting better by now.

thanks Mpopinz and Gilberte for your encouragement!! pass the popcorn(but only if it's real tender..I usually choke on the stuff unless it's candied or as nice as they make in Disneyland!!:D:D:D)
BTW I have a WONDERFUL recipe for caramel popcorn... :D:D
I plan to do a little more today on this painting. and the size is twice as big as I said..it's actually A3 size...16" x 24"..
I figure if I was using a large brush I'd need large painting!!
