Hi everyone..this is my first posting on this particular forum at WC.
Everyone's work is super and I have enjoyed tuning in since the forum started.
With a lot of Battle of Britain remembrance going on about now I thought I;d try a quick charcoal of Sir Douglas Bader.(from photo) 11x14

One of my most PRIZED possessions is a signed copy of Frank Woottons painting "Bader Bale out",,by both pilot and artist...( shhh! dont tell my wife:lol: )..

I just love this portrait of him and would love to try an oil copy,,I cant find any info on who painted it...it was used as the cover of Laddie Lukas' biography on him..does anyone know who painted it?

I was not able to work out what is seen ahead of him until whilst trying to find out who painted the portrait, and I came across the photograph used for reference. The facial features on your drawing are well done but I waould have opted for a change in background or simply a textured brindle background.

I think that the Shell Oil Company is in someway associated with the book cover paiting but cannot be more specific.

Welcome to the forum; nice work and would welcome sight of more.

Welcome to the forum Irwin - I like your charcoal sketch - always amazed that people can control that stuff so well - I never got past replicating a coal mine at night with it !
Sorry I can't help with the Bader / Artist query.

I met him twice, once I showed him where to park at a Taranto Night 'do' at Lee on Solent, 1958. Again at Sulom Voe Oil Terminal, about 1981, I was in the fire section during the construction. Bader was a guest of BP and was being shown round the site when their Range Rover broke down, I picked him up and returned him to the office. He remembered the Taranto Night 'Do' but not me!
