Hi Ruth, It amazes me how one could handle acrylic on canvas to produce a study so quickly, 3 minutes. Wow. I have just begun a half-figure class, having just completed my first portrait class. I am looking forward to a figure class in September which will feature 5 minute poses. These classes are in Oils and I can't imagine how I might get images such as your's in such a short time. Any suggestions? How were your first experiences at this and how did you manage to solve it ? Many thanks.

"Paint light and dark masses, not edges. Later,You can always draw edges around objects, if you want...
Paint abstract shapes of color...
When painting onto a flat surface, think flat shapes of color. Don't try to paint around an object. We're not sculpting...think; flat, flat, flat." - Christine LaFuente...(this coaching was given in a workshop on 'still life' and would also apply to 'portrait' and 'figure' studies)
Thank you Robert, TeAnne, and Mario!
Mario, these are very small, done on approx. 8 x 10 piece of canvas with a 1" brush and 4 colors. (phthalo blue, permanent rose, yellow, and white). I had a big puddle of a dark color mixed up before starting, and added to it as needed. That's why some of them look more blue and some more red. I did the shadow areas first and then quickly put in the lights and blended a little, and then the model was on to the next pose. There wasn't really time to think, just respond to the gesture. I was surprised at how well these turned out! I usually use charcoal.
