While I'm looking for new children's illustrators I thought it would be nice to revisit one of the best: ARTHUR RACKHAM 1867-1939
Mr Rackham must have illustrated most of the fairy tales and children's books plus many other paintings and drawings.
Here are a few examples that you can copy or be inspired by. I will also post links to his life and other images you can use.

Hi Janet. I love the way you've caught their characters, especially jack Spratt. And the looming shadows are terrific for atmosphere!
I ordered a pen nib set this morning to experiment more with pen & ink! Getting carried away with this medium.
Looking forward to seeing more Rackham copies from you all, if time permits!!

This illustration is lovely Tyree. Please keep posting. The projects are open ended and I would love to see more. Arthur Rackham is worth more time to post.

Tyree, your drawing is lovely. I don't often use bristol as its expensive and I forget to use it!! But it produces excellent darks as shown in your illustration. Rackham ladies are indeed beauties. As Janet said, you can keep posting in any of the projects after the month.
10-01-2012, 09:20 AM
thanks for the lovely compliments,,,,and telling me that I can post more of Rackham's!!!!!:smug: :D

Susan, your pieces all capture so well the spirit of Rackham. I too am entranced by his delicate illustrations, not too grotesque and yet very engaging.
Jane, lovely color playoff. What a color!! And such details.
I bought 3 of his books and went to the library to borrow a lot more and I'm studying him a bit more.
Faber Castell Albrecht Durer watercolor pencil and wash and Sakura Koi watercolor.

12-04-2012, 02:14 PM
Thank you, Susan. I like everyone of yours too.
For the first time, I have a headache trying to copy something today. I guess I was too serious in trying to learn every small minute stroke from him on the pirate. But the rest are all very fun. Very elegant way he did these linked up drawings. Something worth learning from.
12-05-2012, 05:22 PM
Here's the girl and the pig, my story, following closely Rackham's style.
12-06-2012, 11:54 AM
I love the 'glee' in those illustrations, Sandra.
12-06-2012, 12:44 PM
sandra......your characters are wonderful, lively, and cute....great sketches.....tyree!!!!
12-09-2012, 08:09 AM
Thank you, Susan.
I did these two from cut watercolor paper of strathmore.
ATC size of Rackham's illustrations - I want to do a full range and pass them to my kids as bookmarks.
In the end, I went and bought real ATC cards. Cutting is too tedious.
12-09-2012, 10:03 AM
Sketches are great Sandra...love the loose style. Arthur Rackham is our favorite illustrator, I think. You do Rackham, but in your own way. Neat!
12-11-2012, 06:30 AM
Right side is Rackham's copy.
This one is Prismacolor pencil and Sharpie ultra fine marker on Bristol Vellum ATC rackham's work.

The reviews seem good so I am looking forward to seeing it IRL.

Hope your fingers will mend soon, Janet.
