I liked that Rainy Sea has created a thread that can be added to every time a new sketch is completed, and even work in progress. I love the idea and think everyone should have one (maybe they do and I need to explore this forum more).

I haven't posted my sketches since 2010, so I am trying to find new pages to scan since then.

Hi Arty, and welcome to Art Journals. If you read the thread near the top of the list, about Art Journal posting rules, you will get the hang of how to post here. The idea is to put all pics from a given sketchbook in one thread, as you noticed Rainy doing. Sometimes there is a variation on the theme. The info thread will help you! Again, welcome.

Thanks for the warm welcome CandAlArt. I just read the rules and it looks like the only thing I left out is the types of journals I use. I obviously use quite a few different ones, but I won't be starting a new thread for each since they are so random.

Usually, I use a small, pocket sized moleskin, a sketchbook that is slightly bigger at 8.5 x 5.5, and "large" one that's 12 x 9 inches, and for watercolors, I use a 9 x 12 inch pad of Fabriano Artistico paper.

I also keep a journal on pattern pieces. I call it "The Journal Project," as it is ongoing. Sometimes I do a few a day, and sometimes I go without for long periods. I started the project in 2004, so I have accumulated hundreds. Each are hand cut, then I write and/or draw whatever comes at me in the moment. They are never planned out. I can post a few of those up close, although they do get quite personal. I have already posted one above that is on a small child's dress collar (3 Girls).

I only exhibit these by installing them in mosaic groupings. The installation takes a couple of hours to do because I pin them all to the wall with sewing pins and have to map out the arrangement and shape beforehand.

Here is what roughly 50 look like:

Hello Artyczar,

Glad to see you are sharing your sketches. . . that page about hating the phone is very cool. The passed out on sofa one and the girl tackling the fella are awesome, too.

Are those pattern pieces you are drawing on the tissue ones for making clothes or some more sturdy material? Very interesting what you are doing with them!

These are industrial patterns for manufacturing, not the store-bought tissue ones. They are equivalent to those manila file folders, and about the same weight (#125). I used to work in the industry. I grew up in it, so as a kid I used to draw on them - the ones that didn't make the cut (get it? Cut!?)

I do use the store bought tissue patterns for my masters however. I like to use little girl's outfits because they have interesting collar shapes and are small enough to use a few on a canvas. (I incorporate patterns in my oil painting works.)

Thanks for your interest Rainy! :) I love your work.

Yay!! I'm happy to have found your sketchbook/ journal thread. I've enjoyed reading your thoughts about art, seeing your paintings, your encouragement to other artists, and now I get to look at your sketchbooks too:D

You've got quite a collection of different styles. I love the ones on the pattern pieces. I think that is such a great idea. I hope you add to the thread on a more regular basis...hint, hint.

artyczar

Thanks DrDebby, that jackalope was a commission actually. I threw it in there so that people wouldn't think I can't draw! LOL!!! :)

I keep a few different sketchbooks for different purposes. Recently I have been keeping one that is for a specific type of exercise that an art consultant gave to me. I work in it every day, but the sketches are done with a very different motivation than the other 3 "books" I keep. (The pattern pieces are not in a book.)

2hype: WOW, that is the greatest compliment ever! Thank you! That really makes me feel seen. And that is a BIG deal. Thank you so much!

Joan, I will try to add more. I'll find some pattern pieces for everyone to see, but I have not scanned my book pages for a long time and I have to get onto that soon. I will though, I promise. Thank you for the compliment. :)

Thanks for the peek into your real life and creativity. I relate to your "only things I'm good at" statement! I was taught that I should learn to type so I could be a secretary. It looked like a trap when I was a girl. I learned how but with a rebellious spirit--I still don't type accurately or quickly, as a result. How could I know then that computers would come along and the typing would become as much a means of expression as the paint?

Love what you said about your Grandma Rose.

Amazing collection of thoughts and feelings and drawings. You didn't waste your time, by the way. Everybody has their own genius. Those that never figured out what that was, don't want anyone else to find it either because then they'll feel bad about themselves.

You are so good at expressing your feelings!!! These are so special. It always amazes me that people can be so cruel to each other...and then luckily someone does something so special! Your grandma sounds like a special lady.

Thank you Deborah, Debby and Joan. Your responses mean so much to me. This is my favorite area of WC! It is personal, and so supportive. Thank you for spending time looking at my stuff. I will try to be more regular with posting.

I am finally keeping a sketchbook everyday for the last few weeks. I just have to scan! Seems easier to snap pics though. I'll think about that...

Okay, so these next ones are from a special sketchbook where I alternate days - writing first, then drawing about what I wrote, then the next day I start with drawing and afterwards write what I see and feel. I am not including any of the writing side of the sketchbook. It's super personal.

I started this book at the end of September. It's 12 x 9 inches. I post some from September first. (Still scanning...)
