I love this Scriv! WOW-----That detail is excellent, you got the texture of the comb perfect, the beak looks real, I love that background and overall, this is a magnificent piece!

My family used to raise chickens for eggs when I was younger, and I used to go outside and just watch them do their thing---chickens really are amazing creatures. I had a little rooster named Romeo, and his mate was Juliet, actually they were pygmy chickens, no larger than a robin (I can't remember the name of the breed, but they looked exactly like normal chickens, just 1/8 normal size).

You would have thought that little old romeo was the "cock of the walk" because he would strut his stuff and actually herded the normal-sized hens around the pen, and when things got saucy, he would even fight with our larger rooster over territory of the pen. It was like watching David and Goliath... Many times he won than not...LOL

I had almost forgotten my little Romeo and Juliet until I saw this picture, and remembered his miniature crow. I remember when we moved, we gave them to a good family friend, and they're still alive and well. :) Thanks for bringing back that memory to light.

thanks- does it seem that it needs some more dark values in the darkest area of the comb and in the darkest red areas of the feathers? i mean i know i'ma chicken and all but bubukbukBUK!

If you decide to do some shading, minimal touches would be better than a stronger dark....unless you want to increase the intensity overall!

He has that pecking look in his eye! I had a pet chicken when I was a kid....I petted her so much when she was little that when she became a large hen, she would still sit down and spread her feathers out for a back rub! Probably saved her neck from my granny more than once! :)

more dark added, more yet? i'll link it because the 100k dealy here really drops the res. http://jeff.scrivner.com/images/tc453.3.jpg

I really like this. The pallete is wonderful and the details great.
We had chickens too growing up, little Bantams. Three hens got out one day and when we found them they each had a nest, all in a row, with 10 chicks each.

Very well done. Those eyes! Those guys do stare you down!! You've captured the feathers, too! bukbukbukBUK! back at cha! We have chickens (since april) and they are better than fish to watch. What a bunch of characters. Our rooster hates my husband and will eat from my hand. So funny. My son calls me the Chicken Whisperer!
