Would like your comments on the painting so far. I am writing the history of the 489 (NZ) torpedo bomber squadron based in Scotland during the war. The painting background is based on an actual photo of their attack on shipping in the Sogne Fjord in April 1945. I have placed photos of the aircraft where I would like to see them exiting the fjord. The sea in the painting has come out very bright in the photo it is a lot duller than that.

Look forward to seeing this one develop, looks good. I feel that my eye is drawn to the splah where the waterfall enters the fjord, taking it away from the a/c. Certainly a terrific feeling of movement

I really like your design. I think if the lead aircraft stays bright, it should capture the eye as the center of interest.

I have changed the layout after getting advice on another site So it is going to look like this when finished.

The Beaus are a little better on the second, but I think they still pull focus away from the one that appears to be the primary one. I think if you slid the one above the red houses just a nudge backwards, it will be visibly behind that wing edge and not compete for the attention. It looks like it will be a great piece!

Looks like a great start... As an nenzedder myself I'm keen to see this progress. I had a 489 beau in my pipeline to start one day but cars and colored pencil have taken over.

I started the painting again and now up to painting the aircraft. Finding this harder than I thought.

lost the last pic and don't know how to edit so this one is the almost complete painting. Only changes will be if some points out what needs to be added or changed. Sorry photo of painting was done inside and at night, not ideal.

I think you have chosen a very difficult scene to depict, the aircraft are excellent,as is the scenery, but I find all the steep angles confusing to my eye, the far a/c almost blends in with the angle of the mountain. The painting certainly shows the helter skelter of a hit and run raid. This is only my personal opinion, and I hope it helps.

Have done some changes put the stern of the ship in with the gun turret and a few explosions around the rear aircraft and added a few wisp of clouds on the far mountains.

I think the shell bursts help to tell the story, may be some darker smoke in the target area as well?, but don't over do it unless it was a tanker well alight!
