Here is a little "in-between" project to keep the brushes active while I work on developing other ideas. This is the Morane-Saulnier Type N "Bullet" flown by Capt. R Smith-Barry of 60 SQ RFC. The painting measures 20" x 12.25". I just finished the Grisaille layer. I'll let this leyer dry for a while and then come back and work on it some more. I think I'll call it Bullet.

You need the big grappling hook dragging behind! ;)

Looks good!

A nicely balanced aircraft portrait Russell - you get the immediate sense that this machine is airborne.

A a former member of Sixty Sqn and knowing your accute eye for detail Russell I though that you may have known that Sixty never refer to their sqn in numerical form. It is always 'Sixty'.

The Sqn to this day has an awesome photographic collection and if you were let loose in its photo archive, we would never see you again. Shame I am no longer there for I could have done the research for you.

Veo que la pincelada espontánea y muy bien manejada, ha producido aquí un retrato fantástico de este avión.-

I went ahead and put down the first layer of color this weekend. Subsequent layers (probably 2 more) will help define details in some areas, loosen them up in others and will bring out the colors better.

You capture the light really well in your paintings Russell . I get that narrowing of the eyes when looking into the light on this one - excellent!
Fortunately we had three sunny days a couple of weeks back so my memory of bright light isn't too dimmed by conditions here in the UK climate!
