Tube acrylics, your choice of brand, extra colors of your choiceThe instructor suggests the following colors:

White
Black
At least one red, yellow, and blue. The more options you give yourself the easier it will be for you

At least 11 x 14 watercolor paper and a few canvases or canvas boards

COURSE SYLLABUS


Session 1
Reading Assignments:

Review text introduction and Chapter 1
Read the "Acrylic Options" handout and decide which option you will use for the first piece; you will need to try both options sometime in this courseHomework Assignment: Using your own photo as reference material, paint a landscape focusing on attaining a full range of values form white to dark. Submit reference photo and finished painting.


Session 2
Reading Assignments:

Read over chapter 2
Read the "Color" handout
Practice color mixing and mixing neutralsHomework Assignment: Using your own photo as reference material, paint a floral focusing on using color to create a focal point. Submit your reference photo and finished painting, as well as the neutral mixing practice sheet.


Session 3
Reading Assignment:

Read chapters 3 and 4Homework Assignment: Using your own photo as reference material, paint a still life focusing on using detail to create a focal area. Use hard, crisp edges in the focal area and softer, fuzzier edges in less important areas. Submit your reference photo and finished painting.


Session 4
Reading Assignment:

Read chapters 5 and 6
Read the "Abstract Prompt" handout and choose an optionHomework Assignment: Submit completed abstract painting using one of the prompt ideas. Make sure you have created a focal point using one of Laurie's 5 techniques. In the text of your submission make sure to tell Laurie which prompt you started with.
