Swordfish on patrol
can't remember the size , about A3, acrylic on non shrunk paper! 1996 (still lying around somewhere)

Thank you D'Arcy, it was inspired by the Swordfish which was sent on a/s patrol knowing that in the prevailing weather conditions, if the convoy had to alter course the aircraft would run out of fuel before it got back. The convoy did, and the Swordfish and crew were never seen again.

Then the painting works better than I anticipated. I was going to make a comment about him not being able to see anything through the clouds! The background makes this all the more poignant in my opinion.

Thank you for your comments, as to being above the clouds they might be looking for a break to dip into to look for the convoy. Several Swordfish were lost due to changing Met. conditions, with a cruising speed of around 80 - 100 kts a 40 kt headwind drasticlly reduced their range.
