Whilst we were down in Cornwall we decided it would be nice to take a trip on 'Our Daddy', a genuine Cornish Lugger. (She was the last lugger built in Looe in 1921 by Dick Pearce, the builder of most of the luggers sailing today. She is still sailing out of Looe, now as a Charter Boat for day cruises (or longer) under her Skipper Mike Darlington.
We had sailed with Mike on his previous boat, 'Deu Kerrins' and he was quite happy to see us again, despite my crutches.
(you should have seen the fun we had getting Rob aboard! We arrived at the quay to find that due to heavy rain the night before there was too much fresh coming down the river for a pick up from the beach steps and we had to make our way out across the sands and concrete pier to the end of the rocks. Have you ever seen anyone trying to walk across sand on crutches. LOL We got to the pick up point to find we had to get him into a row boat for transferr to 'Our Daddy' and once we got there that he had to somehow haul himself up on deck. I honestly thought he'd give in but he was determined not to miss a days' sailing. Pity I didn't have my camera with me to record it (and I'm not brave enough to try using Rob's D60 - even if I'd dared take my eyes off him. I was sure he was going to end up in the water. Joy)
I personally had no worries. Although the boat carried a skipper and mate, 'guests' are expected to give a hand with the crewing where possible and Joy enjoyed doing just that so these are just a few shots.
Hand to the rigging and just taking stock.

Believe it or not the rope Joy is holding is in fact attached to the tiller and used to steer the craft. (Yes, Mike actually let her loose with a 48 ft lugger under full sail.!! LOL (76 foot from bow spit to lug sail)

Once our trip was over we had to heave to in the bay for the *crew* to lower and stow the sails.

Joy now has my arm up my back to take one of the charter trips to the Isles of Scilly or the Channel Isles next year.
For any of you who are interested in learning any more about the Cornish luggers and 'Our Daddy' in particular this is an interesting link.
