Hi All,

Just received a new camera Friday and highly recommend it already! It's the Canon Powershot G-1. For general as well as high-end consumer use it is great.

Even hand held in relative low light, it gives tremendous clarity with it's 3.3 megapixels. The best part is the 1 gig mini hard drive (a 340 mb is also available) I purchsed for it so I can shoot over 400 pictures at the RAW, highest resolution for the finest quality, then offload to my computer or a CD. Most cameras only take 16-128mb on sticks or cards which means if it is the only camera you take on a trip, you have to take quite a number of cards (except for the Sony Mavica which uses a mini CD but it's resolution is much less overall.)

The battery can be charged while in the camera (which Sony already does) and is small relatively small. The macro feature is also great!

As an artist looking for a very good camera this is one to consider.

Sorry...been away for a few days...

Ok, price. Usually $799. for the camera alone at Circuit City and other catalogues/photo stores. I got it for the lowest I could find, $659.99 at Marine Park Photo 800.360.1772. It comes ready to connect to your PC or TV, a rechargable battery, AC adapter to recharge from within the camera, remote, software & manuals. You are ready to go just with the camera and above items.

With an additional battery $69.99 (which you can find cheaper but the differential with camera and hard drive was worth it), and the PC 1 gigabite Microdrive, 3 lens filter kit the total came to $1385. shipped.

Hi Diane,

I have been using the G1 for several months and I am very pleased with the output. A battery charge seems to last forever which I suspect is a first for digital cameras. It also gives plenty of scope for controlling picture taking in difficult situations and the supplied software uploads images to computer extremely quickly.
This is my third digital camera and I feel that it is going to stay with me for a long, long time.

I posted images from the G1 on the Photography forum under 'Digital Recommendations'.

Kevin,

Thanks for your message! I've just had mine a week and am thrilled with it so far. And I ditto your battery comment. The battery is the best I have ever used. It does last an incredibly long time without needing a recharge compared to my last digital which took about 3 pictures without dying.

The little 30 sec movie clip mode is dandy too.

D.
