Did this in less than 30 minutes, so again it's a quickie. Kinda reminds me of hellraiser. An ugly version. Hehe. Oh well.

Once again, nice 3D feel. I'm going to have to try doing one of these over the weekend. Is this started on a black background layer and do you use adjustment layers in this process?

I used 3 layers for this one. One is a black background. The second one is the face itself and the third one is some highlights using a dodgelayer and the airbrush.

That's captivating. He looks very much like someone I've seen before but I can't place my finger on who. This just comes out of your head, right? No reference image. I can work with my mind's eye using various charcoal-like mediums but digitally I think I'd fail miserably.
In any case, I like this picture a lot. The eye and overall expression is striking.

Yup, I'm practicing lighting and I get the additional practice of making up figures and faces.
Thanks for replying.

I tried the technique this weekend as promised (emphasis on "tried"). The first two looked a bit like negatives. The third was marginally better. I'll keep at it because I think its a really cool effect. Hopefully, I have something postable (is that a word?) before I'm old and gray http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif.
