Here is a picture that I just finished one on the left was done with graphite and paper, one on the right was colored from the scan of left, in Photoshop. I place the scan image on a layer by itself and traced the on a new layer the tree and clouds. Using techniques from my reading of color pencils. I traced and color the in the image on the second layer. I think over all it turned out good. Hardest thing was to get the stokes down even with the wacom tablet.

I see you got a chance to use your colored pencil ideas/techniques! The wood and the grass really have texture that is communicated by the way you placed the colors. So what's the next step?

Cool Jim,
I like the look of the bark on the tree.
I was going to say it is missing the inward branches of the first tree, but you said you are going to work on the tree more, so, you didn't hear me say that!

Hi Jim,
I really like the details of the grass in your drawing. But it looks as if the wonderful color of green is covering it all up! Do you have your scaned drawing layer on top? I like to change the order of my layers sometime just to "see". If your first scaned layer covers your color's up try rescaning with the background set to transparent. Also play with the smug tool and add different shades of colors and blend with the smug tool. I love to use PhotoShop. You are going to have a great time!

Peace,
Brenda

Brenda,

My scanned pencil drawing is the bottom layer. I first create a new layer that is on top of the pencil drawing then trace on the top layer the cloud and the tree and birds and grass for referance. Next I start filling the colors using small strokes and blending with smug tool. This project was a test of using the techniques from my color pencils books that I am reading at the time. One thing I did find to be hard was when I use color pencils I can move my tablet around and get the strokes to lay better, with my wacom tablet well can move the tablet to around the image. More of a comfort problem then a function problem.
