View Full Version : The next IAPS Exhibition will be in Brea, CA

The next IAPS Show will be in the City of Brea Art Gallery which in not far from Disneyland. It will run from August 4th through September 14th, with the opening reception on the evening of the 4th. I am so very honored to have had two paintings accepted into the show. Are there any other WC members who have been accepted into the show or plan to attend the reception?
I believe that Maggie Price will be holding a 3-day workshop just before the show.

Thank you Donna and Derek!
Jason, the reception is scheduled for 7 to 9 on the 4th. You can attend and I know you will enjoy the show. If interested, Maggie will be giving that 3-day pastel workshop.

Blue...you could start a petition! Actually, they have had shows on the East Coast. Brea is a beautiful Gallery and I'm assuming they asked IAPS to show there because the show 2 years ago was so outstanding.
Thank you so much Don.

I have a few pieces in the show as well, but I won't be going to the reception. I considered flying down for it, to visit family and have a mini-vacation, but I'm too behind in my work. I hope you'll let us know all about it, though! :)

I just got back from the show and it was fantastic!! Karen it was so awesome to meet you!! Your work is beautiful...
I also had the pleasure of meeting and talking to Maggie Price who is the sweetest woman. One of my favorite pastelists whom I've known for several years, Mary Aslin, was there too and I was happy to see her as well.
All of the work at the show was unbelievably good, and I will definitely go back in two years if they have it here again. Great fun! It's inspired me to paint and keep at it.
The only thing I didn't do was try the cookies. :D

I wish you all could see this show. It is amazing!!! I have no idea how on earth Jennifer Hoffman chose the awards, because I wouldn't know where to start. Check back with the IAPS website soon to see the slide show.
Jason! I was so happy that Mary Aslin introduced us. Wetcanvas is such a small world, But if not for Mary, we may have just passed in the crowd and never met.
Kari! Were your ears burning??? Because we were talking about you! We were excited to see your paintings (3, mind you!) hanging in the gallery. I personally don't recall seeing the painting of the elderly couple before, so that was a nice surprise.
Ihad the pleasure of meeting Marie Tippets, an artist I've admired for some time. I finally was able to see one of Mike Beeman's paintings up close. David Patterson had a piece in the show as well. Sally Strand was at the reception, she's always most gracious, as is our IAPS president Maggie Price. Here are a few photos from the reception, including one of Desiree's Habicht's paintings.
Desiree's painting "Cara Cara".

Maggies workshop was awesome. 5 days crammed into 3. Had a great time and she is a wonderful person to know. I made it back for the show too but I had been looking at all the work for 3 days already ;). Took my wife and she got to see what top notch pastel work looks like. She was blown away. I had the chance to me Scott Jones, his landscape had inspired me throughout the workshop and we had a nice long talk. What a great guy and he gave me some hints on where to go for my first pleine aire outings.
My wife also met Maggie who was very gracious with her. Good 3 days for me all around. I have been doing a painting a day since and my confidence is building in leaps and bounds. I will have pics up soon.

Jeff, we'll be waiting for those posts! Scott Jones; painting El Dorado Pond drew a bit of attention. Some of us wanted to know which oranges he used in the shadows.

Thanks for the update and the pics, Karen! Maybe I'm out of ear burning range, because I didn't feel anything.;) I thought about you, though, and the other people I know who were there. Wish I could have been there, too.
Those pics are fabulous! Now I'm really looking forward to seeing the show online. It must have been wonderful to see everything in person!
Thanks, Karen. :)
