I'm struggling with pastel pencils on velour, I've tried Faber Pitt pastels, Cretacolor and Derwent all of which I find hard especially the Derwent some colours are so hard the colour does'nt transfere to the velour....I was at a show yesterday and bought five of the new Caran d ache pencils the colour glides beautifully onto the velour, the only problem is they are quite expensive and I wondered if any of you have tried the new Derwent pastels on velour?

Velour actually responds better to softer pastels and pastel pencils, relatively speaking. Have you tried using Nupastels or any stick pastels? I would think Derwent would work better.
I'd suggest using your pencils on PastelMat. It's wonderful paper and works much better with the pencils you have than the velour.
I did a quick search and found this old thread: Pastels on velour paper (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=370520)
Hope that helps!

Pastel artist Leslie Harrison uses velour paper, go to her website and find her
books, she is amazing. I have learned a lot from her books on using pastels on velour. Her blog is http://lesleyharrison.net. Hope this helps.
