After two weeks of slide prep and gallery stuff I found it most difficult to get back into creating. It was almost as if I'd forgotten why I was so excited before about the whole thing!

Last time that happened I was out for 5 years. Well.

I pulled out some old motivational tapes and listened to them for a few days until I got to the point on positive self talk and imagining your vision. The presenter said to change things we can either change our behavior, change the physical situation, or change our self talk about the issue. Guess which one is easiest?

Armed with this advice, I jumped back into pastel and paper. I worked first with some unfinished pieces. Totally screwed them up.

The positive self-talk kept me at it until late last night I failed so badly I had to sit back and figure out why.

This got me INTO the process, analyzing, planning, scheming the next piece, and I found myself at 2:30 a.m. drawing away, in the flow once more.

Its the doing that gets us doing. Its the going that keeps us going.

Tonight I think I'll sleep. Better.

So, are you still in search of a topic?

What gets us back into productive/creative moods?

Sometimes I'll take a piece (or an old, unfinihed study) and put in on an easel. I look at it all week. I'll consider in general, what the work looks like, where I'm showing improvement.
Then I'll look at the main thing I have a problem with. I study all week, consult books, look online, go to the league workshop; and all week I'll be researching that problem and the probable approaches.
Then when I go to cut loose, I've got a headful of ideas that I've been sitting on and I take right off.

It can be depressing if I fail to tackle the same component again.:(
