View Full Version : red table and pears

this is a picture that has been in my head for several days now, so I had to paint it. Impasto is something new to me - I intend to build this up thicker yet - especially to form the pears clearly - as I am only using the physical paint to define lines, and not hue or tone.http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/05-Jun-2012/976352-redtable2-800.jpg
I would welcome any comments.

-thinking about writing 'spices' on the red rectangle.
(note to myself: this is the last time i buy cheap mounted canvas from the works - it's all baggy and a nightmare to paint on!)

Do not write anything on the red
Especially not Spices for heavens sake
There is something about this, and you don't want to lose whatever it is
by being obvious
Did you prime the canvas? Even the cheap canvas will improved with lots of coats of primer, and you should be priming your canvas as a matter of course.
Oh....I like it :) sorry forgot to say that

thanks andy for your thoughts. I went ahead before reading it and painted 'spice' on the red and posted it in the finished open critique page. I struggled with the 'obvious' nature of using the word - I prefer minimalism in this sort of thing, but here at home my such works are looked at blankly if they aren't spelt out...
I may/probably will reconsider it in the light of your comment, which is very helpful.
