View Full Version : Derwents new water colour paper experiments

Derwent have brought out a sketchbook with watercolour paper (http://www.pencils.co.uk/product.aspx?mid=2752) in and it's really nice. 140lb, smooth and designed to be used with water soluble pencils/Artbars etc.
so I did a page doodling with some of their water soluble media that I have
close ups ........
I'll try it out with gouache and watercolour and mixed media as well but so far I really really like the weight and the surface.
I used their waterbrush for all of these.

Thanks for the heads up Vivien, I'll look out for it.

Cool. . . I will be following these experiments. Love the waterbrush drawing, btw. Great form and color on that!

I think you'll like it Doug - I know you like your water media :>)
Your experiments are always both nicely done and very informative!

This is one of the rape fields done with Artbars and a little gouache in this book

The field is wonderful. The colors are vivid and intense. Does this come as a hard bound sketch book(I hope)?

Helen - sadly no, not hardbound. Something to suggest to them though. A hardbound book of this paper would be good.
I think I'm going to enjoy gouache Debby. I used it a lot in my Foundation Year at college many years ago but not really since then,

Nice color and shading on the field!
The Artbars piece is very nicely done!

wow, you do great work with those artbars! would love to see a WIP or tutorial on those. I have not gotten any so far but interested in how they work

Thanks - I'll try to do a wip when I can.
I've just done a very intense 4 days as artist in residence, demonstrating them at a big art show - phew, catching breath.
These are some of the little demos I was doing, showing techniques possible.
there are more but I haven't scanned them yet.
I've been away due to bereavement/terminal illness.

What a great thread... I absolutely love the color use in the last three pictures... So rich in texture that it feels like you could almost feel them on the screen...
