Wonderful! I have just read a book about camouflage, "Churchill's Wizards" which explained "Dazzle" camouflage and deception in general.

Thank you Doug, I have several books on camo. it can be a devil to paint some times , but it is just doing 'its' job disguising the ship's shape.

nice it takes me back to my father and his lifelong friend being around !! i remember building airfixes model of the italian torpedo bomber i showed it my dad rather proudly afterwards as it was one of my better builds .

my fathers response was " show it cyril he'd love to see that !!" so i take it round on sunday on our weekly visit to watch "the world about us !"

i said uncle cyril look at what i built !!" his response was " little ba***rd , my ship was sunk by one of those !!" needless to say i spent the rest of the evening glaring at my father , ironicly if i remember correctly the world about us that week was a wreck dive on the ss thistlegorm !!

Thanks for the story, I try not to do too many battle paintings, and I prefer doing the not so well known a/c

I was talking to a friend yesterday and she told me her husband was a merchant seaman on the first boat to enter Valetta Harbour.

looking back AB cyril rushton served on the charybdis and it would have been during this action hence his dislike of my model !!
he was also on her when she was sunk by a german torpedo raid ( i read up on her ) they were obviously winding me up , unfortunately he is no loonger with us but i rememmber his stories of his activities , one that vividly stands out was his dislike of fuel oil smells comming from swallowing so much during the charybdis sinking !! he was also decorated for his actions with the asdic set onboard HMS black swan leading to the sinking of a german u boat !!

I love it when there's a story from a painting.
