Our illustrator for June is the Swedish artist John Bauer 1882-1918

This wonderful illustrator, known for his elves and trolls, among other fairy land creatures, is better known in Sweden where his museum is and where a franchise of private schiools are named after him. In 1997 four stamps of Bauer were issued.

The movie Dark Crystal's visual look was inspired by his art.

Please explore this artist's work and copy, be inspired or just enjoy. Please post what you do here.

Here I have added Dr. Ph Martin's Bombay India ink and the colors are much more intense and I don't need to photoshop it at all. I'm much happier with this version.

And since the background is so dark, the only way I could add the flowers and twigs in his hand is put a layer of Uniball white gel pen and then brush more colored india ink on it. Beats having to drag out gouache tubes.

Forgot to mention I do use mechanical pencil freely to detail.

Having said that, I do enjoy the poster edges filter.

Sandra that is a terrific colourful interpretation of Bauer. The yellows and reds are beautiful together.

Tyree, I love your monotone study. Very good darks and whites and you captured the contrast of the little girl and the old king.

Susan, very good rendition. It has the perfect eye expression.

I did this last week and didn't have time to post it.
