Very, very nice. Your style is certainly your own. I'm starting to think that I would recognize it even if I didn't see your name on it. :)

This is beautiful and has a magical feel that I love.
I have been feeling a need for color in my pen and inks and didn't know if I should use colored inks or what.
You have inspired me to try more than one medium in one drawing!
I have used colored pencil some but never like the rough texture I get with them. Maybe it's the paper, maybe the technique. I'll have to visit you guys at the CP forum.

Thanks so much Carol. I'm so glad to be an inspiration to you. I used watercolored pencils for all of the background. Just colored them in lightly layering then took a wet brush and washed them in. I did the grapes mostly one at a time. I colored in a little green on one and then a little purple or magenta (or light purple and dark purple) and blended them together lightly with water. After all of the coloring was done I did the ink work. Then went back and did some shading on her face with regular Prisma's. Give it a try. You will love it..:D I don't usually do this on watercolor paper because of the texture. And I don't usually use
Prisma's on watercolor paper at all because of the texture. I
usually use bristol board since I don't use a whole lot of water so
it doesn't hurt the paper. You could also do it with washes of ink for the background. I don't use ink because I am afraid I will get to dark. I can't wait to see what you do.

I particularly love the leaves in this one, Sharon.
Carol, good pencils, the right paper, and super sharp points make all the difference in the world. Lots of layers helps too. Colored pencils can actually achieve glassy smooth results when the materials and techniques are right. :)

Sharon, the way you do faces especially is a style of your own. Pretty recognizable at this point. The tip you gave on the wc pencils for adding a washed background sounds interesting. I will have to try it. Color in my inks have been a real sore spot for me. I just can not seem to find something that suites me. I will have to try this soon.
Lot of good deep dimension on this piece.

I like your style and appreciate it even more with your description of your technique.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks AJ. You're welcome.

Oh Sharon!!! You make magic!!! Awesome! All my CPs do is sit in their case. Color just scares the snot out of me! LOL You make it look so easy.
06-16-2003, 11:25 PM
Hey Danny, what a nice thing to say (except for the snot part..hehehe..lol) You shouldn't be afraid of color. I'm sure you could add color to your stuff with the "watercolor" pencils. They are so easy. I was afraid of them at first but they are so easy to use especially for backgrounds to ink work cause there is no wax and the ink goes over them so well. You should give it a try on some practice pieces. I think you would love it.
