Animal Life of Yellowstone

While in Yellowstone we saw about every type of large animal that the park is home to except wolf, black bear and big horn sheep. Unfortuantely many of the animals were not as close this go round than when I have been there in the past.

While I realize that some of these photos are not world class, I hope you enjoy them :D

N.A. Bison/Buffalo were the most common animal we saw.

The calves were less than a month old.

I had never seen grizleys in my previous trips, but this time we say 5 of them. Here I was wishing for a bigger lense!

We saw fewer moose than we did bears! And again wishing for a longer lense!

While we saw many elk (mostly cows) they were not coming up close to the roads, but were way out in pastures. Two bull elk in velvet (including this one) were more willing, but the lighting was not good, as they had their backs to the late afternoon sun.

This osprey we saw at one of our very last stops. S/he was hunting. S/he was hovering over the water and we even got to see her dive once, but she missed the fish s/he was after and I missed the shots with my camera (darn shutter lag :().

I wouldn't be complaining about these shots-they're marvelous! My fave is the calf! Too cute! I'll bet you were excited about the Grzzly-I would have been! Great trip!:clap: :clap: :cool: :D :clap:

These are wonderful shots, not just of the animals but also of the scenery behind them. The colours on the hillside in the first one are gorgeous. My favourite is definitely the moose though. I like mooses/meese/mise??:D

Great shots! Well despite not having a big lens, you captured some really nice wildlife. You were so close to that bull elk, shame you didn't get good light. Dunno why you didn't just run around the other side to get better light :D :D

Never been to one of the great parks, but hope to when my kids get a little older where they'll appreciate it.

The moose shot is my favorite, perfectly composed silhouette, ripples and all.

Cathy, these are wild!!! All of them are just great. I really like the first shot. Interesting similarity between the pose of the bear and that of the moose.
