The feathers are beautifully rendered. The only area where I see you should work a bit more is the branch. It appears stiff in comparison to the feathers. Though branches are hard they are also flexable. I am notorious about preaching on value, but it is so important to give work depth and life. The composition is very good, and you are on the right track. If you do not want to do any more on this drawing then trace the branch and practice on a separate piece of paper. I believe you will be pleased with the results.

good shading .........and the feathers do look "touchable". Nice.

First, let me say that this is very nice. Nice composition and nice technique. Glad you got it posted. :)
Sassybird - being in the learning stages myself, I am curious. Can you be more specific about what you mean about the stick being "stiff." The only things I can think of are that it possibly could use more shadowing to make it look more three-dimensional, and the top of the stick looks too plain - like there should be more. Of course, it is just a cut off stick, sanded flat, so what else should it look like? Maybe some grain?
Your further elucidation would be appreciated. Thanks.

First, thanks oldthumbs...glad you liked it.
Sassybird, thanks, I'm always open to suggestions.
If I draw it again (and I probably will) what would you do to make it look better?
I wondered as well what you mean about the walking stick being "stiff".
If it were a live branch I would understand more what you meant about it, but the walking stick is stiff, that's how it is.
