Here is your next project. You can create any mood you like, whether it be a late evening sunset, misty gray foggy, overcast or just a blue sky day. But I would like to see come cast shadows over the driveway with spots of light peeking thru to see how you handle it. Careful with the two different sides having evergreens on both ends. Do not submie uncopped photos where irrelevant parts of your snap shot are showing. You can crop your photos in Windows Paint which you bring up by clicking on Start + All Programs + Accessories + Paint

After the winter we had in Southcentral Alaska snow is our least favorite thing but I do feel a Kincade moment coming on.......wonder if I can pull off a late spring snow with some hope of life emerging.

Linda in Alaska. Is that with the glowing lights in the windows and the door part way open? Or is it one with the bear knocking on the door? Stu

Glowing lights in the windows are mandatory in any Kincaid painting, even in broad daylight, lol

No bears, open doors, glow from the outside. I did this on a small 8 x 10 , harder than I thought it would be working with wet paint! http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/22-May-2012/977967-snow-and-grass.jpg Oil on canvas.

I have discovered a new way to enjoy my retirement and this is my first post.
Thank you Johannes. You have been my first instructor and I have learned a lot following your workshops on painting waterfalls and rocks. Unfortunately I was not able to watch the previous Essentials of Painting Snow but I tried to do the homework in pastels.
Not great but I believe not so bad for a beginner.
I will be listening to your lesson and advice on Saturday.
Thank you for all your help.:)

What a struggle. It didn't help that I couldn't watch the Saturday class only the paintalong on Sunday. I know the tire tracks are to straight. Jeanettehttp://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/24-May-2012/922012-img045.jpg

Here is my homework for this week. A bit rushed as I have had overseas visitors staying. At least I did better than last week when I didn't manage to do my homework. My Irish visitor loved my 3rd paintalong with Johannes and has taken it back home with her!!!

Here is my homework 2nd attempt. Trying to warm up the colours. Picture is not very sharp.

I am struggling with darks. I don't want to use thick paint but can't seem to get darks. I don't like the contrast between thick and translucent paint. :)

Jo.. I really enjoyed the class on saturday, but I just wanted to mention
the AFTER class look and critiques at other artists works was GREAT..
I couldn't stay for all of it but long enough to crash a site or two. LOL!

But looking at other professional artists works and seeing the information you're teaching us put in place.. really helped bring some things home.

thanks as always

Did not get this posted yesterday before class and had garden/food preservation items to attend to in between, plus today's paint along (Fantastic as usual!!). I can't finish the pan pastel paintings as I do not yet have sticks/pencils for texture & detail. It's hard to do with only the applicators! Jo makes it look so simple. :) I've decided to "pause" till I get them and then go back and finish the couple I've started. So, this one still has a ways to go, but I would like some suggestions for when I return to finish it up. I realize the pine to the right is too parallel to the edge, my shadows need work and my dead tree to the right is not close to finished. Help!!:o

I decided to tackle this snow scene after watching Johannes do his magic. This is in WC with a little pastel to finish it off.

I really wish I could join the paint along on sundays but it's impossible because of where the computer is. I envy all of you.

Callady, I don't know what your internet setup is but, if it's possible, it's time to get a laptop and WiFi set up in your house. I love the freedom to have my laptop anywhere in the house and I hook it up via an HDMI cable to my TV set and watch Johannes on the screen which is better yet! An additional use for my laptop is to have the reference photo up on the screen and set up next to my paint station. Laptops are getting cheaper all the time and a router for WiFi is relatively inexpensive. Kathy

Kathy....I wish I could do that, but I don't have a TV in my studio/junk room where I paint.....talk about a ton of mess! My studio has bare concrete floors in case I drop paint but the other rooms where there are TVs there is carpet. But I will give that some thought. TVs are also pretty inexpensive so perhaps a lap top and a TV might be just the ticket. I learn so much from Jo's teaching. The best teacher ever.

I don't have a TV in the room where I paint either (my daughter's old bedroom) so I prop my laptop open on a table by me there. I recently got rid of all the wall to wall carpet in family room so I brought down my pastels, etc. and painted last Sunday while watching Johannes on the TV set. I agree that he is a great teacher; I've been painting more now that I have in years. BTW, I like your stormy winter scene - lots of mood there! I would like to start combining pastel with watercolor too.

Thanks Jo. I agree, looking at the photo which really is Intense! Fortunately, it is not that bright in real life but still does need some toning down! Plus, there are other issues with the trees, etc. But, I could not have gotten this far without you. Much appreciated.
