View Full Version : Rufous Hummingbird

I had a very fragrant Oregon Grape bush blooming with a profusion of very fragrant yellow flowers just outside the front gate. This, in turn, attracted the attention of a rather noisy (in the quiet morning air his wings sounded like a little outboard engine somewhere distant on the flat-as-glass lake) but oh! so beautiful Rufous Hummingbird. Life is good! :D

Yes, they can sound loud. Then they dive at you with thunderous wings if you get between them and the food. Great sketch of the hummer.

Oops! :o For all of you who are into the technical side of things, this was done with watercolor over Platinum Carbon ink (waterproof and smear-proof ink made expressly for fountain pens) in a Holbein side-bound sketchbook. (FYI, the Holbein is interesting for both its Japanese wrap-around binding and its use of Strathmore Imperial watercolor paper - a delight to draw on in any medium. )

Lovely sketch. He looks as if he is just waiting to dive bomb some one or something.
Thanks too for the info
