(((((((((bump))))))))))
Got a question guys and gals.........:D
The building in the sketch has many stories to them are we to paint the whole building or just one story of the buildings........
I'm totally comfussed.........

Somewhere in here, Alex told me that there weren't too many stories to the buildings, when I questioned my ability to paint a whole building. I said if I thought I couldn't do it, I would just paint a storefront and leave the top of the building for someone else!! Check out Alex's numbered sketch and see if that helps!
Here's the sketch link:
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/...php?proj_id=452
Go, girl, you can do a whole building!!!!!!!
Hey Barb, here's a link to the numbered sketch, see if there is a section that is suitable for you :D

Barb, really well done and so quickly!
My only concern is that I will be going on vacation fro m 7/18 and will not return until 7/30. This seems to be moving so quickly I really hope that I could receive the painting AFTER I return as I would like to do a good job and not be rushed.
Will this be possible? Where is it going after Texas?
Appreciate a response so I won't be worrying that the painting will come right before I leave for SC or come while I am gone.
Again, Barb You have done a fantastic job. I am going to have to take some photos downtown Portland and see what I can come up with.

Okay, everybody! Don't get excited--it's not here yet--but neither is today's mail--so there is still some hope! LOL
Al, the suggestion is that we send it to the folk nearest us. After I get it, I'm sending it to Babybrush in Texas, then she is sending it to Emilie also in Texas. Aren't you the closest contestant to Texas? There is a list on here with states also listed next to the artists names.
So exciting that it is on its way to Lyn!!!
Basically, the global route goes something like this:
Argentina
USA
UK
Belgium
Singapore
New Zealand
Canada
Is that what you were wondering, Al?

OMG!!! DUH!!! Don't ask me how this could have happened, but I sort of fell asleep and completely slept though this from page 2 to 19. Woke up past the nick of time, can you imagine the shock I would have been in when that elephant arrived here while I was in a deep sleep.
Anyway, Alex, GREAT JOB, drawing and painting!!!! and fast like lightening.
Barb, you courageous one (for being # 2) looking good!!
Mary Ann - great organizational skills
This is very exciting!!!
CHAR - YES, YES come on up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D :D :D We are the lucky ones, most of the painting will be done by the time we get it LOL!!
O.K., I am wide awake now, and will be checking the progress and journey with great anticipation!!!!

THE ELEPHANT HAS LANDED IN TENNESSEE!!!!
The elephant is uncurling on the table right now!! It is so exciting to see it IRL!!! It will take me a bit of time to pick out which building I'm going to work on. Friday is a holiday here in the USA, so it will be Saturday or Monday when it gets mailed out. I am NOT as speedy as Tigre255 or Jijo!!! LOL
BTW, it's in great shape--the tube doesn't have a mark on it!!
Lyn, how exciting!!! That was unbelievably FAST!!!!!!!!!!! There's that Barb at work, man she's fast! Congrats that it is on your table.
Al - the people in the UK are Doug and Ruth ... I believe Ruth would like it shipped to her first (that is if you are the last to receive it in the USA) Does this answer your question?
Barb, Lyn, wow how fast your part of the world is!!!!!
I didn´t see a photo of the whole paintin after Barb´s, just her nice detailed part.
Think it would be good to have a photo of the whole for each step so, if Barb had not, can you Lyn please take a photo before and after?
At the end we can perform a slide show with all the development

Hey guys, this is hopefulbucky in Oregon. Al, you list had me freaking out. If it was to go to me after Texas it would arrived while I am gone which I had already written from 7/18 until 7/31. As fast as these folks are painting it looks very likely that would happen. Could it not go somewhere else before it comes out here. I don't mind sending it to England if I would get it last in the U.S. but really don't want it sitting on my doorstep. If Lynn is going to mail it out Mon. or Tues to Tex. and it goes 2 places then I am afraid that is exactly what would happen. Any thoughts anyone?
Judy
P.S. Good jobs so far on the painting, hope there is a tiny little bit for me that doesn't show too much getting nervous. Such good jobs you folks are doing.

Great idea, Lyn. If you take a pic of it before you paint your section then, as Alex suggests, we can do an animation later ... seeing it come together piece by piece :)

Alex and Barbara,
Your completed sections look very nice together.

Keeping us guessing on which building you've selected??? Look forward to seeing it when you finish. Take your time, not all of us paint as fast as Alex and Barb. Thank Ed for taking such a good photo of whole painting.

LOL, Sylvia, nope, not really! I keep changing my mind!! I drew one building on tracing paper, but it didn't look right--so picked another place and drew another building. I think this one will work--I just have to check my perspective, etc. then transfer it to the painting.
How's it going, Lyn? Enquiring minds want to know :D
Has anyone figured out how far this painting has travelled so far ... as the crow (or elephant) flies?
artmom
07-03-2003, 08:46 PM
MA, I THINK my drawing is finished. I'll be transferring it to the original sometime tonight, unless I freeze up completely--it is intimidating to put brush to something that other people have already put their art on!!
Also, making sure that no paint gets dripped on the painting other than my spot!! LOL I'm trying to have fun with this!:D
For those who are worried about doing their bit--Alex has all kinds of sections marked out--a sky section, a mountain section, a roof section, greenery section(s), a water section, etc. so you should be able to find a section you are comfortable with. I just had the wrong building for the first section I looked at, so I found a smaller section and redid the building and it works better.
Lyn, that's great! Have fun with it! It's all yours for now :)
I remember doing an essay in school once about a native custom ... I think it was the talking rock or stick ... anyway, the point of it was that people would sit in a circle and pass the rock/stick ... when you held the stick, it was your right and obligation to speak what was on your mind. Guess this painting is a bit like that. So there, Lyn, it's your right and obligation to paint whatever is in your heart. :)

I was thinking of this very possibility.... when I get the painting it will be three-quarters done already.... I plan to cover every inch that I'm NOT working on with paper or clean towels or something - I've never spilled on a painting yet but I would be devastated if that happened to this one!
It might be prudent if we all took a few extra precautions.... just a thought! ;)

Nandie, you've got a good point.....that is what i did when I had the painting......as I'm not the neatest person in the world........ I just covered the whole painting except what I was working on with like wax paper to protect what I wasn't working on.......

Once we get closer (long time yet) Char should get the painting before me because she will bring it up and visit - well that;s the plan anyway.
So, my point and worry, I think I'll be the second last person to get it, meaning there will only be two spots left -
PLEASE!!!!!! do not leave me with sky, water or foliage!!!!!!!  :o :( :D

Here's the signature line--I'm finished!:D
I decided to put the State of Tennessee flag on here as Tigre255 had done the USA flag so well. That is supposed to be 3 stars in the center of the blue circle--standing for the three geographical regions of the state--the Mountains, the Plateau and rolling hills, and the lowlands which is part swamp, and Mississippi River delta land. The stars are arranged so that no one star is over the other.:)

Here's the closeup.
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/06-Jul-2003/11722-RR_Close-up_Neoclassical-Greek_Revival_Bldg.jpg
There will be a lot of greenery above my building, and the big church beside it--so I left it kind of soft for the church artist (hopefully Madmum) to put shadows and for the greenery artist for the section above my building to put greenery shadows or leaves.
This was the first building I have ever "built" from scratch freehand!!!
I hope it compliments Alex and Barb's work. It is a style known as neoclassical--Greek Revival that is used extensively in the USA for government buildings, courthouses, museums, libraries, college buildings, etc. The color of the brick is in honor of our Blount County Courthouse here in Maryville.
Hope you like it. BTW, you have a few hours to tell me if something is terribly wrong with it! LOL After that, the Robin will be winging its way to Babybrush (Bethany) in the great state of Texas!!

A very interesting building type choose, best of all, with a background local history. Well drawn (congrts been your first freehand one) in conjunction with church will make a remarcable corner in our little city.
Mary Ann, those three signatures... this must be very very important for you, I can imagine how you are feeling, a BIG hug!!!. Your elephant creature is lovely.

Great choice of building style, Lyn, if everyone puts so much thought into their section (of course they will!!!) this painting will be a rich tapestry of styles and history.
Good point about shadows, please everyone follow the light direction throughout the painting. Whoever gets the roads etc. will have to paint the cast shadows :o
By the way, don't go out of your way to save the church for me, I'll take whatever is left. :) So if you really want to do the church, go for it!

Poking my head in for a gander, guys and gals! Lyn, what a fitting building to represent this area! And bravo to you for pushing the architectural envelope (buildings can be so stinky to render)! Nandie, Madmum, Erin--thanks for the kudos!
Yes, it took some thought to find an architectural style that would go with high rises (remember, I live in a small town--4 stories is a high rise to me LOL) that would also cover a large section of the USA and as I was driving past our Courthouse, it struck me that was an important style linked to the founding of the US and as it was the Fourth of July weekend, it wasn't hard to pick that style.

Sorry, folks, the Robin won't be taking off until tomorrow morning.
I had PMd Babybrush (Bethany) before mailing the tube, and she hadn't come on line yet at 1:00 pm today when my online service went down. It just came up five minutes ago and she had still not answered, so I phoned her.
She will be there to receive the package this week, but there is no way I can get it to the Post Office and get everything taken care of before they close today.
This shouldn't slow things down, because we seem to receive it on Wednesday when mailed on Monday, and we seem not to mail it until Monday, even though the image is usually done by end of day Saturday and can't mail until Monday anyway! LOL
So, good luck, Bethany--you should have it by Thursday!!:D

Hi,
I just wanted to pop in (if that is okay) and say that this is the most amazing thing!!!!! I am loving it! It is such a great idea, and coming along so fast as well!
Now, this thread is really long, so I apologize if this has been mentioned before and I missed it, but is it possible to get prints made of the completed work for WC! members to purchase before it goes on ebay? I would love to have a copy! I know there is no way I could afford the original!
Anyway, you guys are doing an amazing job....keep up the good work!!
Okay, I'll sneak back out now......
;)
Bethany, so cool! I love your description of the painting and am excited to see it in real life too! Have fun! It was called an elephant early on in the game because we were sorta undecided about things and Sylvia kindly reminded us that we were creating an elephant ( what's an elephant, you ask? A cow that is created by committee.) I think it has subsequently begun to look more like an eagle in flight though :)
Hi Bides, thanks for dropping in! That is great! It is wonderful when people drop by with a word of encouragement! Hadn't considered the possibility of prints, I think that is a great idea though, should look into it. Wondering what everybody thinks about making some prints?

Mary-Ann,
It was de plans, boss, de plans (said with a Herve Villechais (sp?) accent) that were beginning to look like an elephant, not the actual work of art! Jeez! LOL!
I think it is beginning to look like a beautiful peacock now! Henceforth, we should say "The peacock has landed" or maybe Mary-Ann's idea of "The eagle has landed" whichever bird you like.
I dunno, I kinda like the elephant has landed :D

Shortly after we got the elephant lifted off the ground I contacted the Guinnes World Records site (http://www.guinnesworldrecords.com) to see if our project might qualify as a world record ... after all it will be visiting 5 continents and have travelled almost 40,000 miles before it is complete and they have a number of interesting art-related records. In any event, I received the following today and thought that you might like to know about it (didn't want to mention it earlier because I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up). Sadly, here is their reply:

Dear Ms Archibald
Thank you for sending us the details of your recent record proposal for 'Most distance travelled to complete one painting'. I am afraid to say that we are unable to accept this as a Guinness World Record.
While we certainly do not underestimate your proposal, we do however think that this item is a little too specialised for a body of reference as general as ours. We receive many thousands of record claims every year and we think you will appreciate that we are bound to favour those which reflect the greatest interest.
We are sorry we cannot be more positive but we thank you again for your enquiry and your interest in Guinness World Records.
I appreciate that this may be disappointing to you, but I hope that this does not deter you from trying again. We are always keen to hear from people who wish to set a Guinness World Record. If you should need any advice regarding breaking an existing record or setting a new Guinness World Record please contact us again through our website or directly quoting the above membership number.
Once again thank you for contacting Guinness World Records. We wish you every success with any future record-breaking endeavors.
Yours sincerely,

I have just emailed one of my internet art friends who has giclee prints made of her art, to ask what the prices for prints are - I know it is not cheap.
In return for her favour and for your viewing pleasure (truly, she is amazing) I'll include her website.

I'll let you know the minute I hear from her.

BIG NEWS!!! WE HAVE A SPONSOR FOR THE ROUND ROBIN!!!!!!!!
Here is our sponsor: http://www.artistprintshop.com/
Earlier today, I contacted Ron Kensey, he is a Giclée printer in the US and a member of WetCanvas.com, he regularly contributes in the art business channel regarding reproduction of fine art.
He is prepared to reproduce our round robin painting as a print AND as a poster AT COST (that cost includes fulfilling the orders, packing, shipping and postage as well as scanning, printing and top coating) so that people who are not in the project but would like to purchase a copy can do so. There will be a markup on these reproductions and he would like to see the proceeds from any of those sales go to support WetCanvas.com too.
The fine art giclee will be 18" x 24" to include a 1 inch border.
AND (ARE YOU SITTING DOWN?)
Ron will give each of the painters in the round robin project a print of the finished painting! (Please note that the cost of these prints will need to come out of the the proceeds from the sales of the prints/posters, meaning there has to be enough sales of prints and posters to cover the cost of printing our prints and further proceeds go to WC!). So it will be important to let the world know that they will be able to purchase a print or poster as their budget permits!
Remember, the project makes the money for Wetcanvas.com beyond costs, beyond the copies for the artists, not Ron and this is a very generous offer, I doubt it could be matched.
The beauty of giclee printing is that he can print what is needed as it is ordered so we don't need to worry about minimum orders and he should be able to work them every week or two with his regular orders.
I'll get back to you with the pricing and the ordering details. I think we can all agree that this is GREAT NEWS!
I am hoping Ron will stop by for a moment to say 'hi' to everyone!

Thanks guys! Sure Uschi, how much?
Uschi
07-10-2003, 09:33 PM
My Question:How much does the original scanning (setup)etc. cost?
Answer: A scan is about $95
My Question: How much is it for each print afterwards - can you give me a few different size prices???
Answer: It goes by sheets. If you did 16 x 18 size you would get about 4 for $155 and if you did 8 x 10 size...I think it would give you about 18 of them for $ 155...but the prices have changed some recently...this is just an estimate. Also, if you do a large printing...more than just a few at a time...I think they would give you a better price break for sure...seems I got 4 sheets for $400 once and so if you were doing 8 x 10...that would be72?? something like that and doin the math...i think it would be a rather good price.
But that is giclee...and I have heard that you can go to a printing place and just have lesser expensive things done...one would have to check.
Uschi
P.S. this is not "at cost" but normal printing price.
Here are some details regarding Retail sale price for people who are not in this project but would like a copy ...
Retail sale of the fine art giclee will be $195 US, plus shipping and handling.
Pre-printing sale of the fine art giclee will be $175 US, plus shipping and handling.
Retail sale of the poster will be $35.00, plus shipping.
Pre-printing sale of the poster will be $25.00, plus shipping.
How does this sound?
OOps, Uschi, looks like we were posting at the same time ... this works out to be about $43 wholesale on the giclee and $15 on the poster ... the difference between the wholesale and the retail will cover the costs of the project and the balance will be contributed to WC!.
:)
I am working out the details for the actual sales ... will hopefully have that solved soon ... if anyone is interested in pre-ordering you can contact me and I'll keep a list until the sales site is ready.

WOW!!!! , spend a day driving into the Hill Country to help a friend and all sorts of exciting things happen while I'm away!!!
MaryAnn, you RULE!!!!!.....
This is all so exciting, I can't believe I'm part of it.....Oh meeeee....
Emilie
Emilie, this is very exciting!!! But I don't want to get people's hopes too high ... first there has to be enough interest in the project from people who want to purchase either a poster or giclee at Retail price ... after that, our reward ;) and contributions to WC!, our favorite site!

We are happy to be a part of this great project .
. OOps, Uschi, looks like we were posting at the same time ... this works out to be about $43 wholesale on the giclee and $15 on the poster ... the difference between the wholesale and the retail will cover the costs of the project and the balance will be contributed to WC!.
Artist Printshop plans to scan the original and proof it... then print and ship the orders to indiviual customers anywhere in the world .. by mail, and as a sponsor we expect to cover our direct costs .. including materials, tubes, and shipping .. so ... that is what we came up with above,
The posters will be 20x30 inches on satin photobase,
and the fine art prints sould be a small limited edition that we can sell out within a year and will be sized at 18x24 printed in 11 inks on the finest fine art paper .. We Use Hahnemühle Art Paper - German Etching Board 310... so it will be a very nice size print ...
So there is no inventory or extra shipping for Mary-Ann to handle ...
The unknowns on our end would be the packing and shipping costs international .. but we are willing to do what is necessary to deliver the print at this price ... to make it easier on all if we can include worldwide delivery ...
We also agreed to buy a domain name and host the website for this project ... if that is what you all might like to do that ...
We will also help market the prints and posters anyway we can .. although I feel that after talking to MA .. she has a good grasp on that aspect too.... a wonderful leader she is ... ..
In return we would like to be identified as a sponsor of the event.
So .... should be fun, and I can assure you the prints will be top of the line qualitiy ...

Ron, that is so generous of you to get on board like this and support our project! Thank you!
I'm a little overwhelmed, feeling like I'm not the right calibre of artist to warrant being part of a project that's going to be printed (giclee no less!) and distributed all over the globe!:o :o
Hoping I can do a bang-up job like everybody else and that the poster will be in demand so all of these costs can be recovered!
EEEKKK!!!! This is incredibly EXCITING!!!!
Bethany - I believe Lyn attached it to a table (I seem to recall that she cleared off a table in advance of its arrival) and tapped it there. Let us know what works for you.
Ron, thanks for stopping by with additional information. This is an amazing development! I'm very excited.
Since last night, I've been contacted by pm from someone who wants to order a print or poster in advance. I'm hoping to have some details set up for the sales site by this weekend, hopefully there will be enough interest and I think there will be if we let enough people know about it.
Not only that, I feel this will be an additional opportunity to learn about how prints are made, I know that there are a number of people in this project whose work is top rate and many others whose work is on its way to that level and who may not have gone the fine art printing route yet ... and speaking of which...
Andrea - LOL - You're too funny! Can't believe a word out of you ... just have to look at the gorgeous work in your signature or on your Web site to be reminded of how humble you are!

Very exciting!!!!!! and I too can't believe I am part of this. Wouldn't it be great if lots of people bought the prints/poster.
Gives me other ideas for future i.e. one like em had done but with different people's "best" art?
Lots of fun!!!

Thanks for the nice welcome .. I am so glad to be a part of this project ... for the excitement of it!!! .... It is something worthy of news coverage in the industry .. We advertise in Art World news and I want to work with Mary Ann our leader for a press release on the project announcing the print when it is finished ... or before, and I will send it to the editor ... It will be good promotion of WC and the prints ..

2. I have received another pm from a person who wants to order a print or a poster.

Amazing the Ron´s sponsoring. That is the kind of people we wish to be part of this, and the best way to give everybody the opportunity to have a part of it.
No medals for Mary Ann, a big whole monument will be fine. Tremendous effort, the best for her.

Barb, you are such a trooper!
Hi, I've been working on a draft of the site this evening. This is the site where people will be able to pre-order/purchase a copy of the painting plus, it'll help promote the auction, the reproductions and the people.
Generally speaking, the links do not work yet ... this is just a draft.
It isn't finished but I'm at the point where I need some feedback. So I thought I'd post it here, grab a bite to eat and go to bed!
I'm especially interested to know if it downloads quickly, if it is easy to read, if one page fits on your screen (or atleast so that there isn't too much scrolling).
Right now, the links on the tinyheads open directly to sites for those people who have sites ... I think I would prefer that each person have one page with details about them and their work on that page and a link to their site from there. Let me know how this grabs ya!
Here's the link: http://www.citadelhill.com/robin2.html
and if you want to see the pre-first draft, draft, just take the "2" out of robin and hit enter!

OH MY!
Every time I go to sleep, I wake up and RumplestiltsMaryAnn has been beavering along, making this even more exciting! This is amazing! (**actually I know her secret--she's really TWINS! )
MA: That's correct, I don't have a website. What do you want/what should I do about the linking page to my tinyhead?
I want to express my thanks also to Ron for his sponsorship. This makes this project even more special. I'm proud to be a part of it. (...and a little nervous, to be honest! )
I was particularly touched by Jijo's comments. Living in a French-speaking area, I know what it's like to search for vocabulary to express accurately what you're feeling. You do so well in English, I (for one) often forget that you're not a native speaker!

Wow! Mary-Ann you have been busy!
Just a note - my website is actually not an art site, it's the site of the West lancashire Heritage Association, a charity which I am chairman of.
Maybe I should consider a site for posting my artwork.
Doug
I'm getting the sense that you guys are basically okay witht the site ... and Andrea sent along some excellent notes for tweaking it. Would be happy to hear from any of you in this regard too.
I think what I want to do, to accommodate people who do not have web sites and to add a bit of coherence to the site is to give each person one page of their own ... that way, when someone clicks on a tinyhead, they can get a little data about the individual artist AND a link on that page for people who do have their own sites.
I will hopefully get some more work done on this later today or tomorrow and update you at that time.
About the money taking part ... I am hoping that WC! might be able to take the orders and have sent along an email in that regard to Scott. Or, it may be the case that Ron could do the order processing for the reproductions :) ... as I would prefer to not do that part. I am still willing to deal with the auction ... that won't be for some time.
I'm thinking (optimistically) that the earliest this project will get done is in October/November ... would be awsome to have it at auction prior to Christmas!
For you guys who think that I'm a work-a-holic, I'm not. I just want to get the site up and running so I can get back to painting, that is my motivation!!! LOL.
KK - Thanks, the second site is the one with the checkerboard of tinyheads (although I posted it first)
Andrea - Your suggestions are excellent, will update and post here (probably pm you then too).
Kate - if you don't have a web site, that's not a problem, will get you a page.
Doug - I noticed that your site isn't art related ... Very cool site, just the same. I definately think you should have an art web site but think it is still really neat to link to that, whatever you prefer.
Have made a few changes to the site, if you'd like to have a look: http://www.citadelhill.com/robin2.html
If you click on Barb's (tigre255) or my photo, you can have a sense of what I've come up with for the individual pages ... if you guys like that format, then you can just send me the following details and I can add it:
1. Name
2. Year of birth
3. Occupation
4. City/State-province-ville/Country
Oops, I think I should add country flags on those pages too. Let me know what you think. Am trying to keep it simple LOL
Suggestions, critiques etc. welcome.

MA, Just want to let you know how much I appreciate your effort in putting all this together... and Thanks to Ron for your generous sponsor.
I noticed that Madmum's flag in the website is a US flag.... is this a mistake... I thought she's from UK?
I'm a Malaysian citizen but a Singapore Permanent Resident, which is why I still use the Malaysian flag below my tinyhead. But if the flag represent the countries that this elephant has been to or is travelling to... I guess I'll have to stick with the Singaporean flag.
Marvin, good eyes! Thank you for catching that. I've changed Ruth's flag. Marvin, can easily change to Malaysian flag if you prefer, just say the word.

Just trying to help :)
Marvin, thanks, done.
I was wondering about the difference in their flags too ... will wait to see if they have a preference on it.
Marvin, want to send me your details ... will get started on your section next, here's what I need:
1. Name
2. Year of birth
3. Occupation
4. City/State-province-ville/Country
5. A short statement about your art or this project or what inspires you.

1. Marvin Chew
2. 1975
3. Artist (or ex-accountant.... err nope)
4. Sarawak, Malaysia (now based in Singapore)
5. I'm a watercolourist who is equally comfortable in other mediums like pastel, acrylic and graphite pencils. Wetcanvas is the best artist community site I've ever joined and I've learnt so many things here, thanks to the many generous members all over the world. When Mary Ann started this round-robin project, I know I must be part of this as a way to say "Thank You! Wetcanvas". My day wouldn't be complete without logging onto the site :D.
Marvin, that's great. The link from your tinyhead now opens to your own page ... right now, the links open a new browser window but once the site is up and running in its own space, I'll just link it so that it just goes to the page without opening a new browser and it'll have a link back to the main page (except for links that take people out of the site). Let me know if it needs anymore tweaking.
Anyone else got a little data for me? You can post it in this thread like Marvin did or you can email it to me at mario@ns.sympatico.ca or pm it to me, whatever you prefer.
Also, I snagged a domain name for the site: wcroundrobin.com ... hope that's okay with everyone.
How's Bethany doing? Very excited to hear from her! :D

Yahoo! Excellent, Ruth!
I'll get you a list of place names etc. Not completely sure about the order it will be travelling through the states on ... but I understand that Bethany will be sending it to Emilie ... Emilie will then decide who is closest to her and send it to that person.
Once it leaves the US, I understand that you will get it before Doug and that Doug will send it to Kate and Kate will send it either to Marvin or KK and one of them will send it to Rod who will send it to Andrea, who will send it to Em who will send it to Char who will drive it up to Uschi who will send it to me :)

Uh, oh, are you using a dial up? Maybe because we have 21 tinyheads there! Hmmm. It will be moving to www.wcroundrobin.com soon ... maybe that will help:)
Nope. I've got broadband. I'll keep trying. I have another computer I can try, and see if I can isolate the problem!
YOU ARE DOING A FABULOUS JOB ON THIS! I'm constantly amazed at the life this project has taken on!

Bethany, you are a talented young lady and I have every confidence that you'll do a beautiful job. I liked the first building also... You have everyone's support here... Just do your best, as I'm sure you will...
Kate, I've had both sites open and I'm on dialup... Sorry about your problems!!!
Ruth... WHAT a great idea! I'm going to get a large map and post it here in my office, putting pushpins as it travels!!! My family is pretty excited about this and it will be great to have it right here!!!
Mary-Ann... If you need something else, you know where to call me!!!
Need another volunteer again...
Alex just sent along the following map of the painting (is that what we should call it - another title for it?), it is nice and clear.
Wondering if anyone would like to print it out and add the usernames as each completes a different section. I've added it to the main page for this project and I hope Alex doesn't mind ... I'll add it here in the thread for everyone to see.
Ruth - your Atlas will look like swiss cheese :)
Bethany - I think you made a great decision, looking forward to seeing it :)
Emilie - :)
Kate - :)
Here is Alex's image:

Alex and M-A,
That outline is terrific. It is much easier to read than the original which was done for the painting and had to be kept light. Now those of us still to come can look at the various building sites and kind of think ahead about the types of buildings that might work on different places.
Thanks again all for keeping this moving as you are.
Bethany, I've copied your buildings just for general architectural elements, hope that is ok with you. I'm looking through books and magazines copying anything I see that might go into a nice building front. It's a shame Alex didn't add a canal so we could do Venetian-style building fronts. (Just kidding, Alex, just kidding. :cat: )

Thanks to whomever did this drawing, Alex? The hard lines are really great and I was going back and forth trying to figure out what Bethany was going to paint. This is much easier to see.

I put my pushpins in all over the Encarta atlas to get a feel for where everyone is - WOW!
This isn't the map I'll be marking things on, I found another map without country names on it for clarity :) I'll get back to you with that in the week.
Just thought you'd be interested in the route and distance (although 4 US members homes aren't marked yet)

Obviously Singapore and N.Zealand can't be seen since they're on the other side of the globe!
Ruth
Nice work Ruth. That's one lucky little elephant. Just imagine all the sites it has seen already and what it will see as it goes all the way around the world. Would love to be traveling with it. Gosh! I just added it to the main detail page for the project :)
LOL @ Emily and Sylvia!

Interesting fact! The circumference of the globe is just under 40,000 km. The painting - travelling as the crow flies - will go round the world nearly 1 and a quarter times!
(edited because of bad maths  )
Ruth, that is an interesting factoid. :)
Three times? I'd like to get around it even once. Anyone ever been on a trip around the world?

MA I messed up, should have been 40,000km so it's more like 1 and a half times lol (I'm blonde ;) )
LOL, still an interesting factoid, irrespective of haircolor ;)

alright you guys, i'm finished, but you are going to have to wait a little longer since i haven't taken a picture of it yet. i painted in section 8 for those who care. i hope you all don't mind i added a sidewalk in front, thought it would help the transition between street and buildings.

Char, thanks. Maybe it's just my computer that's messing up. I tried it with another one, and that worked just fine too. Uh-ohhh.
Ruth and Char: If you're trying to find Verviers, good luck! It's actually about halfway between Brussels and Cologne (or halfway between Liege and Aachen, if your maps have those).
Alex: You're a genius. Thanks.
Dang! Every time I think I can volunteer for something, somebody beats me to it! What a great group....

Mary-Ann,
Ruth has a good point with her math and map calculations. Since this is an international project, maybe measurements and distances should be given in both metric and U.S. terms, kilometers and miles, inches and centimeters. Who can do the math, "not I" says painterbear, not if you want it to be correct. ;)

(waving hand in air frantically) I CAN! I CAN! Please, Mary Ann, can I do it???
Seriously, I've learned to do those conversions easily since I moved from an inches/feet/miles place to a centimeter/meter/kilometer place. (I can do temperature too!)
Just send me whatever needs to be converted and Katethehumancalculator will go to work.
Kate
(thanks, Painterbear)
