Beautiful images Geck. Is that a coyote? He looks so close and hungry....... Beautiful rolling hills, is that typical of the landscape near you?
Love the color of the oriental lillies.

Anne-I love the first one but I collect teapots and the little purple flowers all around are wonderful & go well with the teal pot!
The lilies are just marvelous but it looks like what Maria was afraid of they are all the same color. I'd love them anyway! Is that you or Maria holing the roses & bud? If it's you are you holding the D30 in the other hand?
Holy close to that coyote! Nice shot!
:D
Question about the D30-how many pixels? Is it comparable to the Canon10D? I'm considering the 10D if I can sell mine & scrounge the rest of the cash. I have the lenses cuz my EOS ELAN II has a 75-300mm and a 28-80mm lens they are EF so I guess they work on it. I also have a bunch of filters.

Maria has a nice garden ! Cool teapot, looks like one Carol has by L. Banks, a once local potter. Prefect young assistant (assuming that is Taylor's hand?). Coyote commuter, how cool is that? Very!

Hi Ozzie, yeah, the coyote was feeding on something by the side of the road about 5 miles form my house. I thought it was a deer, then as I got closer I realized it was a coyote, so I stopped the car and grabbed the D30 off the seat next to me. I only have a 50mm, so I needed to cross the street (still in the car) and roll up next to it. I was thinking about Trimoon the whole time, and the tips he gave us about shooting from the car. (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=541431&highlight=car%20shooting%20drive#post541431) Yes, the hills are quite typical for west Marin... rolling hills and redwood/douglas fur forests actually. The hills are just now turning brown for the summer.
KT.... Thank you, I LOVE THE D30!!! I'm still working out the RAW stuff, but man... I can see there is a lot of potential here! I really like the speed and the low noise images it produces.
Thanks, Cathy... I was trying out the -.7 trick I had just read about for shooting red flowers. I was happy it worked.
Thanks Sunny, Dave is correct, that's little Taylor. The D30 is 3MP vs the 10D's 10mp. The print size is 7x9@240dpi which is plenty for me...because these files are so clean I can interpolate them up easily. The CMOS sensor is much larger than a Coolpix's CCD, so they don't really compare, but the photos about the same photo size as the 4MP 4500, actually, with a little cropped off the short side. Unlike the coolpix though, they are crystal clear, no jpeg artifacts, no digital grain to speak of... just gorgeous.... also, Adobe ARC has a feature that interpolates the photo up to 11x17@240 dpi before it converts to TIFF and it looked amazing on screen. Better than anything I've tried in PS on my Coolpix files. I would have no problem printing that big. Being *only* 3MP, the file sizes are reasonable. RAW files on the flash card are only 3 mb, so my 256mb card holds 68 shots. The TIFF's I extract on my computer are around 18mb and then I save them after I work on them as TIFF with LZW and they're about 4-9mb, which is another thing i'm grateful for. RAW files from the 10D are twice as big, 6-8mb, so I imagine the TIFF you'd be working with would be in the 40mb range, saves with LZW down to about 20mb, (but I'm assuming those numbers.) That's bigger than I want to deal with. I doubt my 5 year old system could handle it! The D30 just made sense to me. I have a budget of $2000 and still need a good macro lens, so I had to get a camera under $1000. (The macro lens I want is $800!!!) Since you have some EF lenses, I say either way you should go for it! You should be able to find a D30 for under $900.
Thanks, Dave... Maria's garden is unbelievable... and so is Maria! I could spend the rest of my life taking pictures there... as long as she was there by my side cracking jokes. :D
Thanks, Julie...I hope I answered the coyote question...That photo is cropped, btw... it was about 25 feet from me... just keep a camera next to you at all times!!! :D

You are really getting on well with that D30, Anne.
I am always struck by the clean images that come from the D30, D60 and now the 10d. And what a nice neutral colour balance they all have. By comparison my G1 (which I am fond of) produces jpegs that are distinctly pink, and even the raw images, which are pretty neutral, are positively gritty when compared to the slr range in terms of smoothness.
BTW - Raw is the way to go in file format. Very flexible for post- correcting white balance etc. and is a true digital negative. I still shoot mostly in jpeg just to save space because I have only a 64 mb card and I am too mean to buy a bigger one.

DANG IT, KEVIN! I feel I'm in a huge tidal wave being pushed toward RAW. I guess it's only a matter of time, now. :D
Geck: My fave by FAR is the last one. LOVE how you got his lanky gait, that front left paw bent like it is. Aren't they too wonderful? BTW, for those of you not used to coyotes, this guy looks VERY healthy. They are slim, long lived and very, very resourceful. I used to see them often when driving up my hill coming home from work just before dusk, but soooooo much building has been going on. I mean, humans seem bound to fill every bl**dy space on earth with a human house. And they, of course, are sure that the main purpose in a coyote's life is to kill and eat human children.:rolleyes::rolleyes: Consequentially, nowadays, we don't see them as often, but never fear--THEY ARE STILL HERE! We are treated to concerts just about every night. And I love them! American Indians called them "God's dogs." And indeed they are!

Ha Ha, Eileen,
There is no valid reason for not using the raw format, other than space saving, which really only applies if you have teeny weeny cards like mine. Downloading and converting raw files is achieved effortlessly with programs like Chris Breeze's BreezeDownloader and BreezeBrowser - both small, full featured, user-friendly and inexpensive.

LOL Anne I didn't know you had taken a picture of the tea pot. Isn't it a wonderful shape and color. Of course there's a story about that tea pot and why it's sitting in the yard.
A friend of mine is a potter and was experimenting with a new glaze. When she fired the teapot the glaze ran more than expected and fused the lid to the pot. I was there while she was unloading her kiln. She was bummed that it was ruined and useless and was about to smash it. I snatched it from her and told her that if she were going to break it then I would take it for my garden. Now whenever she comes to our garden she is pleased to see her lovely teapot. And I love it sitting right there.

Ah yes, thanks for catching that... wishful thinking on my part! The D60 and 10D are both 6.3MP.

Wow, Geck, you sure look like you're enjoying that new camera. That first one is my favorite, I love the teapot on the rock - may I draw it? I'm also wowed by the coyote shot, that's a great capture!

Geck...I just wanted to add my thanks for putting the link for Trimoon's Tips for shooting from the car. It's great to have these threads brought up in discussion from time. And it's a shame for so many of them to have been relegated to the "archives."
THANK YOU!
(And thanks to Moon, for that thread...should he visit this one. :D )
