Hey Kevin,
Does the Tor have a name like Man Tor or Black Tor. Only the Emerald Isle could produce that serenity. Lovely job, worth a nice glass of poteen

OOps Billyg, a typo error. It should be 'Torc' and the location is downstream from Torc Waterfall in Killarney.

I have been to Torc Falls, it was so beautiful. I love the drive to Killarny, one of my favorite places in Ireland.

Kevin,

What a strong painting! The only place I could suggest a bit of reworking are on the rocks on the far side of the bridge. From the web photo, it looks like the shadow sides are all the same color and value which gives tends to give them flat appearance compared to the rest of the painting. Just a slight adjustment and variation of cool/warm tones is needed.

Your composition and handling of the near/distant foliage is beautifully done. Thanks for posting this. I am really enjoying viewing it.

You are quite right, Diane. The rocks above the bridge do look a bit one dimensional. It is not quite as apparent in the original but reducing it for the web certainly indicates that highlight and shadow could be much stronger.

One thing that impresses me here is how you have managed all the green. I really have a problem when encountering this and many times do not handle it well. I wonder if you could instruct us on how you handled it, sort of blow by blow???
Thanks - beautiful painting.

Thank you for your comments, Cheryl and Jerry,

Re green:
This is a colour which can be somewhat dominant in an Irish landscape, particularly in Spring and early Summer. However, as the song goes -the forty shades of- is also true. Therefore painting such greenery requires lots of shades to ring true. The leaves of trees of different species can be recognised at a distance by their shade of green. Similarly the shades change with their angle to the light which makes convincing grass difficult to paint.

For foliage in general, my base green is Pthalo Green which is a very powerful bottle green which when mixed with Cadmium Yellow turns into a very vivid true green. My other colours are Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Coeruleum Blue and lots of Titanium White.

Thanks for sharing some details. I WILL get better with this. I can sit and look at your painting for hours and smell the flowers.
Just great!!!
