Well, since it opened to other mediums, here's my Girl with a Funny Face (and a pearl earring). I did this soft pastel several months ago. I never posted it, but this seems like a good opportunity.

Girl with Pearl Earring has been a favorite painting of mine for some time. I had decided to make a training excercise out of it, but I completely lost the tooth on the smooth side of a sheet of black mis-tientes. I had fun playing with the lights and darks though.

Anyone read the book? If not, I really recommend it - totally absorbing little book, fascinating to artists, and an easy read. I couldn't put it down.

I did, and loved it! I was wrapped up in her world for an entire day. I didn't put the book down until I had finished (well maybe I snuck in a meal or two :P ).

The book seemed a great example of literature where every detail and action serves the book as a whole -- something I think is important in visual and musical art as well. I think that's one reason the book seemed to be especially absorbing.. it's hard not to fall into a world so complete, and so richly portrayed.
