Here's where you can post what you painted along with Johannes (or paint later, if you do that).

Remember, he tends not to comment on these, as he says you can just compare yours to his.

I enjoyed painting along with you today Johannes, I will likely post my painting, but I really started to let my own mind compose and my painting turned out with a cabin in it and a composition unlike yours.

I do have a concern. As a retired art teacher of High School students, I think you may be trying to do too much. Having students online live that you are monitoring through left brain reading, and students there talking to you, and trying to concentrate on the various connectivity concerns of every student, while trying to concentrate on your right brain painting, you are likely to get burned out. We need you and don't want that to happen. Stay healthy and stay safe and happy with what you do so well. Only then will you remain a mentor to all of us artists. Remember, no one can do it all and you are so right, what you do (paint) you do tremendously well, and you have a soft heart for your students and want to please everyone. But you are putting yourself in a position that you may find yourself thinking you are not teaching well. You in fact are teaching very well, but you are simply spreading yourself too thin and trying to do what most would not even consider to do. Please everyone all the time.

We love his classes then we should all buy the paint-a-long. We don't have to be present, we can watch the videos later. But $19.95 for 4 days of painting is peanuts and it would show Jo some appreciation. I just bought mine, who is next??????

I bought mine after yesterday's class. I may not be able to attend each of the next four classes, but since I will be able to download them, I figured I'd be a fool to pass on this great opportunity! Jo Rocks!!

I'll likely post my paint along from today after I get some decent pics of it.

here is my paint along. Its not easy getting the right colors using hard pastel. Size is 11 x 14 on pastelbord. I dont want to do any more to it now, because I am exhausted after painting for 7 hours without a break.
IRL the piece isnt that blue, its more of a blue grey. ACK! I just noticed that I hate my background grass!
Critiques and comments welcome. Any suggestions on improving my piece will be welcome.
Great class today. I too will sign up for the paint alongs. Its pretty cheap price considering what you are getting, painting pointers from a master painter.
I wish somehow we could paint along and he critique our work as well as his inperson students, but I know thats asking alot of JO. Wish I had the budget to be in his realtime class.

Sure did miss Robert in class today. First want to send my get well wishes, and hope you are feeling better really soon!

I learned so much during this paint along. I've seen two of Johannes Saturday streams, and can see why so many sing such high praises for Jo. (He has the patience of a Saint)

This is my first real landscape in soft pastels, I was going to use pans, and grabbed a 9.5x12.5" sheet of velour paper. Then changed my mind and just used the soft pastels that were already setup for another piece I'm working on. I'm used to using sanded paper for the softs, but this sheet of velour took a ton of pastel, and scumbling works pretty well on it too. But I will say that having Jo's instruction made so much difference for me here. I learned sooo much! (did i say that already?)

Trying to give myself time to look at it with fresh eyes, (using the mirror, and now the photograph of it) I can see that I have to drop some intensity in the mountains, they compete with the very minimal detail in the fore and mid ground. But overall, I'm very happy with this learning process and the piece I've got so far!

Comments welcome,
Thanks ~Noreen

Great work, Ann! I love your grasses, and the strokes in your piece!
It is so interesting to me how the hard pastel and the soft can look so different from each other and yet still similar.

I'm wiped out from this painting session too, and I can't believe how fast the 7+ hours went by though, because it was so much fun, wasn't it?

I wonder how many folks could get in a video enabled go2meeting style workshop? I'd need about three computers hooked up though. One to stream Jo's work, one to shoot mine, and another to show the reference photo. lol.

I'm looking forward to seeing more posts from today's class..

What a great paintalong we had today. Well worthwhile and I am looking forward very much to the next month of paintalongs with Johannes.

Here is my effort. I think I may do a bit more work on the largest mountain after it dries a bit but made myself but away the paints as I was starting to fiddle!!!

This is 12 x 16 in oils.

Jo, I missed most of the Sun. work shop, but enjoyed what I did see. This is my version of the Sunday painting, it was great practice for grasses and shrubbery, I screwed up on the sky.

I also downloaded a program for mac form Neatberry called Sketcher, it's a program like the one you were showing us on the weekend that was for Windows. I found that this program give great ideas for painting trees, I use this technique in the trees in this painting.

That program for the Mac http://neatberry.com/products/sketcher/download/

Thanks. I'm watching finishing touches. That mountain on the right bothered me from the beginning as it was so prominent. So seeing how it is resolved is helpful. I'm a much slower painter than you and of course I had to work on a 16x20 canvas. Will post it when I'm finished.

GREAT WORK! everyone, I am impressed. I was hoping that others from sundays class would post their pieces. Personally, I enjoyed seeing everyones paint along.
As for me, I am going to try and do better with my paintalong this sunday. I am trying to learn as much as I can from the master painter.
Just wanted to say thanks everyone for posting their pieces, a personal thankyou.

Finished my second ever pastel painting. It is PanPastel on not Fabriano Studio watercolour paper that can't take layers of pastel. Size 24 x 32 cm

Anyway I am  for the result being new to the media.

I am not certain what happens to colors when they are posted, but the yellow greens in this are not in my painting.
Enjoyed the paint along even with all of the distractions. I am learning about the things that Jo is concerned about in the final phases of his painting. I tend to put it in and leave it. He goes back and makes many adjustments that do not occur to me. It gives me much to think about.http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/18-May-2012/139791-josrockies.jpg

Is the USTREAM site overloaded? Strangely enough, when I click on a video link (any video) it seems to be loading and then the screen stays white, no matter what.

Is this happening for anyone else? My browser software is up to date, I d/l'd the VLS Media player, which works fine with the preloaded data ...

I even tried using the embedding URL from one of the videos in the VLS player, but got an error message. Hmmmmmmmm!

SalzburgBJ - I don't have the problem. The first recorded part that is 3 hours long starts with a white part. It is because Johannes hasn't started painting. Did you get any sound?

hi everyone...hope you are having a great weekend! Today was a great class!
I wanted to post my updated paint along from last Sunday before we do our new paint along tomorrow.
I added some purple to the mountains, added height to the evergreens, made the near grass in clumps rather then grass blades, added a little rippling to the water and lightened the water where it reflects the snow on the mountains.
The photo doesnt look like the finished piece, even with the paint program tweeking that I did. Seems like other have this problem too.
The mountains arent quite that intense blue.
I would appreciate any comments, let me know what you think. Let me know if its an improvement or if I messed it up.

It is nice to see everyone's work. I had to leave today after the first half hour and hated missing Johanne's great instruction. This is a hard time of year for me to focus on inside work. I'm irrigating fields and working horses, but want to spend time painting too. Unfortunately, I'm usually too tired to do anything else once I get back inside. So, everyone enjoy painting for me. I'll have to be content looking at your submissions and planning my next painting in my head. I did have the opportunity to take some beautiful reference photos today while riding a rocky butte. Lots of wildflowers are blooming between the rocks and bunchgrass. Maybe if it's raining next Saturday I can watch the whole class.

Enjoy painting everyone, and thank you again Johannes for sharing your gift!

I don't think you can download those. You have to be present on the day and watch them live. Then you have to wait until they are available through Northlight by going through Jo's website where it says buy videos, or something to that effect. Be sure you go through Johannes website so he gets a commission on sales. Kathy

I could fiddle with this forever. I keep seeing things im not happy with. Grass on right needs more verigation. Bush on left could use a tad lighter color in it. Didn't quite get the mountain values right . BUT that said it is progress for me so will move on.

No, that one just sort of slipped by us. If you are looking for a place to post your painting or to see what other students did, there are some that got posted on the Paintalong Discussion thread, somewhere kind of in the middle. (That confusion is one reason for these threads designated by dates.)
