I was out for my morning walk(new lifestyle) and saw this Staghorn fern. Since they are rather rare around here I thought to post it.

Nice one! I love ferns - I have a few in the garden but want to get more. Is this fern on the ground or in a tree.

I'm also a lover of ferns and this is a lovely photo of a type I don't believe I've seen. We do have a couple of ferns in our garden, though the fronds are not so wide apart as these.

It's on the ground Alan but very low lying so I just took a pic from above! The mosquitoes (our state bird) were horrendous this morning! If I stopped for more than a moment I'd get eaten alive!
We have sword ferns and fiddle head fern but that's it. I'll post them soon so you can see them!
Rob-this is my favorite fern of all-wild anyway- because it is always different in shape. :D

Sunny...YEP! State *Bird* for sure...something akin to BUZZARDS! Except the Skeeters don't wait for you to die before they devour the carcus! :D
...I was just commenting to Eric this morning on our drive home from the river that the roadside ferns were one of the first things I remembered from my first trip into Wisconsin. They are SO plentiful around here. The hillsides along the roads are literally *covered* with ferns. They give an "other worldly" feel to driving in this part of the state. I LOVE them!!! (We have staghorns growing in yard...along with several other varieties.)
Oh...and I like the white violet peeking out from underneath, too. ;)
