This is my first posting here at Wet Canvas. I am an amateur photographer shooting wildlife, mostly. I do a lot of macro - butterflies, spiders, bugs and such.

At first it was just important to me to get a decent picture of a particular species. then I started concentrating on improving technically to get get good specimen photos. Now I am trying to make images that are more artistic.

I am just learning to use PhotoShop - mostly for tweaking rather than serious alteration. I expect that will come with time.

I would like to learn about composition.

Assuming I have figured out how to post an image here, this is a sample of my pictures.

Nice shot ... nice butterfly, too.
Are you shooting chromes?
For composition tips, I would recommend entering critiqued competitions. I did that for over 10 years. Also read books on it, and show your work to other pros for advice.

PS
You might also want to take a look in the Composition and Design forum here at WetCanvas....there are some current postings about using the 'Golden Mean' theory of composition.

Thank you for the WOW, TeAnne. That's the best reward an amateur can get.

Thanks vonorloff.

Yes, I shoot Fujuchrome Sensia 100 mostly but lately have been also shooting some Velvia 50.

I have been posting images on a photographic critique website for a couple of months. It has been quite helpful. It at least has taught me how to make an image suitable for presentation on the web and has got me started using PhotoShop.

I have posted a few pictures here at the WetCanvas projects, but there doesn't seem to be feedback there. Are there critiqued competitions here?

You mentioned wildlife photos as Art, well yes, I can't help but see them as Art. Makes me think of National Geographic for example. I think of that mag being full of Art.

I really like this photo. The butterflies wings almost look crysaline.
Great job. Beautiful.
