Osteospermum has just become my word of the day. I'm going down to Agway to see if they have any osteospermums.

It looks as though it's part of the sunflower family - not sure which kind though. There are many new variations - you could always go to your local garden store and take a look at all the differenet sunflower seed packets for its name.

Also if you notice the unbloomed bud to your left - it's going to bloom in the yellows. You enhanced this in purple. I did the same thing with my sunflower pic against a yellow background for a poster. We'll call it lavendar sunshine!

no, it is an osteopermum, or african daisy. the website that was given was right. there are tons of them around here... an nice wild looking and big flower.

It's an echinacea otherwise known as a purple coneflower. It is a relative of the black eyed susan, so much so that before they bloom, it's very hard to tell the leaves apart. This flower also comes in a white variety.

Oh and yes this is the same echinacea used as an herb for treatment of colds.
