Your fish is beautiful and quite menacing looking. I love the colours - for some reason they give me the impression that I'm looking through water even though the fish is so bright and colourfull - as if I were in the ocean with it.

Looks like hes off to a party ;)

Cool colors Alan, I like the sense of "depth" you achieved in the water too, just brings that Lion fish right to the center of attention.

Thank you everyone for your comments....I can tell you it was not an easy painting to do.
The fish itself is one of a speciesof about 6 that live on our barrier reef (The Great Barrier Reef). It is very popular withmarine aquarists.

You live in a part of the world that is very interesting (to me, anyway)

Thank you She She....it is an interesting part of the world we are sub tropical here the flora and fauna is always interesting.
Paul....thanks...the size of the fish you could actually hold in the palm of your hand (if you could and they do grow larger) and that is one of the reasons why I decided to paint it so large because it is so small but such an impressive fish.

Is there anyone else out there painting fish,I am interested in doing more especially tropical and reef fish.

05-31-2003, 07:11 PM
No, but I want to. Does that count? :D I work primarily in pen and ink, but tropical fish is definitely on my list of things to do.

This is absolutely beautiful! The Lionfish is such a beautiful fish, it seems hard to believe they are such meanies. They look so pretty, like you would want to touch them. But, uh, I guess that would be out of the question. :)

Thanks again folks for your comments.....actually on sunday I was in our big pet supermarket looking at other marine fish...the colours for the size of some of these fish are amazing...but I did see another Lionfish species its body would have been about an inch long and its floating fins etc would have been about 3-4 in long but not as colourful as this one... it would be a nightmare to paint.

06-02-2003, 07:04 PM
wow this is beautiful. It looks so real.Have you done many tropical fish?

Allan Jameson

Great painting!!!

I love paintings of creatures, that dont get that much attention of artists in general.

Like fish or insects. :D
