Title: What's So Cute About That New Baby, Anyway?
Year Created: 2003
Medium: Colored Pencil
Dimension: 8 x 9
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!
I think this is done, I am letting it sit a few days, so any improvements I think I can incorporate, if I have any tooth left to the paper, that is!
This is from a photo I took of my niece's boxer, Brutus, on the day we came to see her first baby...
MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:

Your title seems to be exactly what he's thinking....poor little guy! Really nice!

dog lips are great!
conposition is perfect and structurally its great. The only thing I feel this work is lacking is contrast on the boxer.... The work feels like it was taken from a camera with a flash and washed out all of the debth, but I'm not sure.
I wish I had that dog sitting in my chair when I got home. This is great work.

Thanks! I'll try to work on some more contrasts on him. To be honest I had a heck of a time finding the right color combos. You are limited in cp!! I'm also trying to get away from liney-edges, if you know what I mean. I can see my first works are full of hard edges.
Thanks for the input!

Incredible idea, and work is spectacular. You must be very happy with this. I would put more contrast in, simply because the chair is so close to the color of the poor left out pooch....nice job.

He's perfectly wonderful! Makes me smile :D
And that chair is incredible! Holy Moley!
Yep, a few deeper darks in selected shadow areas on the dog, and it'll be perfect! GREAT WORK!

how absolutely gorgeous and original! It's impressive how a big animal like that could be jealous of a tiny baby:) I like the eyes - it seems like he'll start crying any moment

(this cutie would be in my lap!...:) )
another idea that may help separate the pooch
from the couch...
rather than contrast in the boxer, itself...
place darks, in select spots,
where the dog meets the couch.
ie...like where the collar meets the couch...
(plus a tiny-tad down the arm of the couch
and a tiny-tad along the dog's neck...to the first curve in his jowl)
ie...where his left front leg V's with the couch arm
ie...where his left back leg V's with his body/right front leg
just touches here and there where appropriate...
great work here...love the composition
the boxer is adorable
great capture on the expression.
