View Full Version : HA! Did the background first!

Yes, did the background first and even did some "negative" painting (both unheard of for me!) Painted this when I was unable to garden, during the couple of cold days we had.
LOL, normally it's the background that gives me trouble, this time it was the rose.
1/4 sheet, Winsor Newton 140 CP

Beautiful!

Your petals are so soft and natural looking. And the background and leaves with all the negative painting are superb. I love that sunny spot there :)

WOW!!

I almost fell out of my chair! I LOVE this. I want to reach out and touch the petals. I already know how they'll feel--soft and fragile.

What color(s) did you finally settle on? They're perfectly stunning. On my monitor it looks a little like my good friend Opera...

More of these, please.

Uschi,

Looks like starting with the background worked for you this time. I love negative painting, I think it adds a lot here too.

Your roses are beautifully painted, I like the way the petals curve and bend, especially the one in the left flower near the top. Your leaves are interesting and add a lot to the overall success of this painting. Very nice painting here.

The negative painting is always so hard and yet youve made it look easy! I really love the glow of sun through the right flower, and the way you've used the same touches of purple throughout the whole painting for unity....a truly MARVELLOUS piece and worthy of study!( I shall be joining Ruth in that!)

This is hip slapping gorgeous. If that is the answer to perfection, I am going to do background first. Lol! Your roses are so transparent. Thank you for sharing.

I love this! First of all, this is my favorite kind of rose. Anyone know what it is? I don't; there's a bush of these at work and I just linger longer by that busy.

And the background is fantabulous! Colors are great!

HA! You and me both Ruth:confused: I absolutely love negative painting but find it such a harship. No right brain activity in this girl:D Thank you!!!

Sylvia, thank you!!! The real credit goes to Mother Nature!!

Baba - send some of your negative painting skill over to my brain and thank you!!!!

Kate - thank you - no Opera, used Quin Magenta, Ultramarine and Winsor blue

Thank you sooo much Aselka, Olga, Sher, Marquisina, Rapolina, Mia, Marily, Kansas Lady and Phillip. Your encouragement is much appreciated!!!!
