I bought a piece of artwork at an estate sale a few weeks ago. It looked like an original oil. On investigation, I found it was an oil reproduction of a painting called "Boulevard Montmartre, Morning, Grey Weather" by Camille Pissarro. I paid $60 for it and it's in a huge ornate gold frame. On the internet I found it sells for $620. What do you think I should do with it?

sell it on ebay.
keep the frame and get rid of the painting.
hang it on my wall.

1. Do you like the painting? If so...........keep it. If not sell as a reproduction.

2. Do you like the frame? If so keep it....if not sell it.

do you have a picture of the painting in the frame so we could see what we are talking about? :)

maybe it's just me:confused: ....but what sells for $620? the reproduction? the frame? or both together? :)

Is it Picasso--as in your subject--or Pissarro as in the thread? Can we see it? What size is it? etc.

If you bought it because you liked it, then why not keep it ? If you bought it for resale, then sell it ?

Here's what it looks like---frame and oil reproduction.

Sorry this jpeg is so fuzzy.

Betty, I think this is something you will have to decide for yourself. Is it on canvas? or cardboard? The frame is probably worth more than $60 itself--how big is it?

I happen to be a fan of Pissaro's, he was the oldest of the group of artists known as the Impressionists, so I would probably keep it and hang it at least for a while.

Sounds like you made a good buy. The frame alone is definitely worth what you paid for the painting.

I would keep it and hang it - you must have liked it and wanted it - that's why you bought it!

It's on canvas.

Sounds like a good buy. Hang it for a while and decide whether you want to keep it or not. I like Pissaro's work--particulary his colorways.

I am wondering why you post this subject at all, and especially on a watercolor forum.

If you like it - hang on to it. Pissaro used to paint in and around our twin town of Pontoise and Van Gogh is buried in the adjacent village of Auvers. Pontoise has a Pissaro museum with several of his paintings.
