I did this for a friend a while ago, and intended to post here before, but only now I had some time...

This is a view from the German city Rothemburg ob der Tauber, based in some photos of her (seems to be the main spot of the city, looking in the Internet I found various photos of the same place...).

This one was quite a complex one, took about trhee weeks to complete. I started with the pencil drawing, in order to study composition, lights and darks... Only after that I moved to watercolors...

Prep. drawing, 6x8" graphite and charcoal pencils:

and then, half sheet of Fabriano paper:

Comments and suggestions welcome...

Oooops, forgot to say: sorry for the distortion of the photos, had to take quickly just before handling the painting for my friend...

What a wonderful scene! The only comment I have is that the yellow is a little lemony. I'd go with a more toned down yellow. But, it is such a nice painting!

Beautiful work! I was standing in that exact same place last summer during a two week vacation in Europe--I think it is the most popular place in the town.

Just one comment, and maybe it's the scan, but given the strong shadows, it seems like the values on the left side of the street might be darker??

thanks

Thanks for looking Betty, Lyn and Darren...

Betty - actually she wanted vibrant colors on this. Maybe I've gone too deep :) :) Note taken for the next paintings...

Darren - you might be right. This is the problem of relying in photos taken by others... Also in the improvement list ;) ...

Super painting!

I would have preferred a few people in the painting to give it life.

Lovely street scene. I really like the colors in this, the detail and the flowers under the windows. Nicely done!

I like this painting but would like to see just a little more texture on the buildings. & the sky look to plain for me.

I would go for a softer blue, & add some clouds.
I think a sunset with all the nice golden colors would be nice at the horizon.
