View Full Version : Another Swan

I started this on Friday and just finished, unless someone has a suggestion.

It's acrylic on masonite. The first picture, I scanned so the whole image isn't there as it is 11 X 14. The second is the whole image, taken with the digital camera, but the color seems a little off. The first shows truer colors.

Comments and/or critiques appreciated and welcomed.

This is a lovely painting. I like the blue. It's very restful.

The colors are just beautiful, Lorna! Only thing that is bothering me is how the wings & back are. They are just kinda confusing, like is that the back or a wing? Maybe it's just me... Can you post a ref pic?

Thankyou Peggy, Carol, Paul, BT, Twyla, and Line for your lovely compliments.

Crazee, here's the reference photo. I took this while in Victoria and the swan fluffed up his wings just as I was going to snap the pic. I think he's done this before! Any way, it looks like wing to me, what do you think? I'll check the other photos and see if there is one that shows it better.

Here's another angle ( bit fuzzy, sorry). You can't really see the back as the wings are high up. I really like this pose, think I'll paint it, too. I have several others of the same swan. His mate was down the beach sitting on the nest. Too far away for a picture of that and I didn't want to disturb her by trying to get closer. I 'll work on getting these posted in the ref. library.

Thanks, Lorna! I don't know much about swans, so I confused myself again... Anyway, you have done a spectacular job!

very nice! i have to admit the wing puzzeled me too at first, but the more i look at it, i like it. it seems like the swan is growing out of the water...an interesting (though unintended) effect!

How beautiful! I love the movement of the water and the reflection.

The pictures r amazing in themselves - what I find intriguing is this beautifully elgent bird swimming on this lake and making hardly a ripple in the water - looks like she's skimming across glass - what a serene picture - I bet u kind of had that funny feeling in your tummy when u saw this - like how can I b so lucky 2 b in the presence of this gorgeous creature....totally blabbing but wow has this picture grabbed me!!!
