MY COMMENTS:
two images here. one is lighter and the other one has darker shading.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
does the second one look better or is there something else I could and should do to make it more appealing.

Second has more contrast...thus looks better, to me. I think you're done.

The green leaves look great, but the poppies lack form to me. They look like small orange cotton candies. When I think of poppies, I think of them open with the beautiful black centers showing.

Artsy, hmmmm, cotton candies :D. well, the poppies are not all the way open. I have taken a lot of pictures of california poppies and they arent all open. Although painting a picture of open poppies sounds fun. if you want to see how I see the poppies just click on my image gallery link. I have a whole lot of poppy photos.
