View Full Version : Commission: Front 3/4 view palomino QH

Hello! You might remember Stanza, the palomino Quarter Horse broodmare, from a previous head shot I did of her in CP. Here is that thread if you want to refer back to it. Stanza Head in CP (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=102684)

This time, I've been asked to do a full body, front 3/4 view, on board in acrylics. I haven't put a drop of paint on it yet (excepting priming the board). The board is 11" x 14", landscape view, but I only have a small portion scanned because of the size of my scanner. Let me know what you think, please!

she looks good to me! I was going to say that the nose looks a bit too wide, but then I looked at your reference photo from the cp drawing and realized that's how she looks!

I'm looking forward to seeing this one develop as I'm getting sort of ready (read: steeling myself for) my first acrylic horse painting... Maybe I'll gleen some useful hints...

Thanks, folks! I intend to put the first coat of paint on sometime today, assuming that I don't stay in my office forever!

The current painting:

As I said before, this is too big to fit on my scanner, and I haven't had time to scan it in in pieces and stitch it together. At the moment, I have only one coat of paint on the mare, and worked pretty hard on the background. As always, backgrounds are evil, so if you think I need to adjust anything, please let me know! Comments and advice welcome.

BTW - she already foaled for this year. She had a bay filly by Diamond Studded. This year she's being bred to Image of Shadow by Leaguer's Shadow.

I haven't worked on this in forever. Let me know what you think! I stitched it together from several scans, so I know the shoulder looks funky, as does the tree line in at least one place. Oops!

Hi Suzy :)
I think you are doing a wondeful job on this.
She looks like she has a gentle disposition.

I did notice that her left eye seems a bit higher than in your original drawing.
