I certainly like the way you use these pencils. Which are they and what paper do you use?

the cats are beautiful. You seem to have capture the personality of the first one right away. They have such beautiful markings and I'm really looking forward to seeing you do it.

Oh, but looking at those rich colours in the photo, don't you just want to get your colour equipment out?

05-11-2003, 02:08 PM
Geez, I almost missed this one! What a lovely job so far, Twyla. You have the 'look' of these cats wonderfully well. More, more!!

05-11-2003, 06:31 PM
Thanks guys the owner is happy with it so far too.

I use Faber Castell pencils mostly I do have some Derwents too. I think this is Stonehenge paper. Don't know for sure cuz I dident label it and just pulled it from my stack O papers. ;)

shedreamsbig Oh wow Twyla, is there anything you can't do???

Oh yes.I cannot fit into a size 20 jean anymore. I cannot do an arieal cartwheel anymore. And we do not even want to talk about the watercolour landscape I did a little wale back.   .

Oh, but looking at those rich colours in the photo, don't you just want to get your colour equipment out?
Actually no. I'm really enjoying the pencil. :D

you have the 'look' of these cats wonderfully well. More, more!!
Thanks. I do have two Siamese here so it helps a lot that I "know" the breed prettty well.

I was going to post more but the sunshine we had just disappeared.
More soon.

07-10-2003, 09:41 AM
Finally some more.
I took this out to Spruce with me on the fri. And it was a good thing I did cuz it was SO boring.

I got quite a bit done.
I'm adding a bit more body to the cats then what is in the photo. I'm also opening up the right cats eye.

Gosh, almost missed this! Great job so far! Don't you just love doing pencil while watching TV--one of my favorite things.

I just did my son's cat in pencil. Of course it had to be a striped cat! Whew! I'll post it when I get the other one done.

By the way, we should always write on the back of our work which paper it is. I haven't been doing it but will from now on.

I like how velvety his face is....you are an inspiration to me.

07-11-2003, 05:26 PM

07-12-2003, 08:04 AM

Hay gang;

Well I still haven't gotten a lot done on this but I'm working on it. Well I almost got one cat done ;)

Here is what he looks like now:

09-15-2003, 07:39 PM
This is going to look incredible when it's finished. The close ups are awesome, it's really interesting to see how you are going about doing the fur ...pictures like this give out so much useful information. What range of leads are you using?

09-16-2003, 04:22 AM
Wow, almost missed this!

This is looking great!!! They sure look comfy/cosy! Can't wait to see it done!

09-16-2003, 06:24 AM
looking great twyla! cant wait to see this finished!!!

09-16-2003, 04:48 PM
Thanks guys. I'm at the just wanna get it done stage. But I have so much going on right now it's crazy.

impetuous I'm using a range from 2H-2B but mostly the mid tones. My fave one in the F and H. I usually do all my sketching with a F.

Hi Twyla,
I've been following this with baited breath. You are doing an excellent job - can't wait to see it finished. I'm currently attempting my first cat in oils but not having much success. Watching someone as skilled and as talented as you is helping me lots - thanks.

09-30-2003, 06:06 PM
Well I finally got a kid free day and i've put it to good use so far. I really want this done so I'm working on it till he come back ;).

Bob I'm sorry for not replying I somehow missed that one. Thats pretty high praise and I'm not sure I'm quite that deserving.:o :o Your making my head swell ;) :p

There is one thing on this I'd like some opinions on. It's the Siamese (cat on left hand) leg. the one the you can see that is. He's got a odd hair whorl and I'm not sure it comes across as reading right. I was thinking I may have to change it from what the reference shows. What do you guys think.

Anyway here they are now. I 'hope' to be very close to done by tonight.

10-01-2003, 02:55 PM
still beautiful...  :cat:

10-02-2003, 07:18 PM
Ok I worked so much on Tue I gave myself a headache!!
I think I have the cats done. Please LMK if you see anything that looks off. I've gotten to the "I'm sick of looking at it" stage.
I still have to work a bit more on the blanket they are lying on. but other than that I think it's done.

...Ok I just noticed a line on the dark spot on the tonk will go fix that now.....

Twyla meow:cat: :cat: :D

This is excellent Twyla, you have a good eye for detail. You must have had your nose nearly touching the paper for this one!:D
This has certainly paid off and well worth the effort you have put into it.

Well done!

10-03-2003, 10:25 AM
A beautiful job Twyla!!! They look so cozy.

It's nice to see I'm not the only one who puts things off around here at getting stuff done.... ;)

10-03-2003, 05:51 PM
This is great Twyla! I love the cosiness. You do such wonderful pencil work! I like the blanket as it is...all the lines draw you right back to the cats nestled in it.

10-03-2003, 08:12 PM
What a sweet picture!!!
