My 14 yr old daughter Ellen :) She doesn't like me taking photos of her and didn't like any of the ones I took as reference for a portrait of her. So, basically I painted this behind her back. :p
I am so happy with this one!!! I love her rainbow hair :)
She's pretty happy with it too :)

Oh Em, you have excelled yourself...That hair is to die for!!!!!!!!!!! No wonder she likes it!
One small nit....It bothers me that her arm looks chopped off, will you be cropping.....I hope not as I really like the composition...Just wish the rest of her arm was painted in.

ROFL!Aha!!!!!!!! I have just realised that it's a book.....took me a while forgive me....I am having a "blonde" moment!

This is just wonderful.. I, too, love the rainbow hair, and dig those purple frames!! :D
Veeerrrrryyyyy sneaky! And effective. A wonderful portrait.
How proud she will be in years to come to show this to her friends and say that you did it! It is priceless!
I like the pose and composition.....her serious/concentration side....... skin tones, highlites and contrast all harmonious......

I agree absolutely beautiful!
But I see a sleeve of her blouse not a book, am I having a bleached blond moment?

Beautiful! I too love the rainbow hair.
Fourteen year olds don't like anything, so if she likes it, it must be good!

A very wonderful potrait   Love so much the rainbow hair. Would love to see if you could continue the arm which looks disconnected form the shirt sleeve.
05-08-2003, 09:47 PM
This is exceptional!!!! I would hide it away from her until she is a bit older and more sure of herself. Then she will love it! I love it!

Oh! good Mommy...of course she loves this, it is grand. I am in awe of how you make this technique work...fishbowl hair is too cool for school!
[privately I call the stem base a fishbowl]

Em... a lot of the Mother went into painting the Daughter! Beautifully done... Lovingly done...
...I see a shirt sleeve, not a book...
Just beautiful. Love the title too:)

Me too! Me too! I love the rainbow hair!! (Mohhmmmm, I want mine like that TOO!!!)
I also love the light in this picture. It comes from both within and without.
You captured her concertration just phenomenally. And both the hair and light on the face are wonderful, not to mention the flawless skin and its tone.
I also have a very very small nitpick about the lower right corner--it looks like she is missing an arm--though I gather from other comments, there is a book there? Perhaps a tad more indication of what is there?
Oh yes--you have a beautiful daughter whose reluctance to be photographed I recognize well from my own almost 14-year-old...
Must be the age

Beautiful painting of your lovely daughter. I like her rainbow tresses too. Skin tones are wonderful and profile pose is very nice.
I find the lower right corner a little confusing too. At first I thought it was the sleeve of her top showing but not arm. Then I looked closer and saw there is a sheet of paper (?) that she is reading from cutting off the view of her arm. Maybe you could make the top of the paper page a little easier to see to eliminate the confusion.
This portrait will become even more precious as your lovely Elle grows older and matures and changes.
Lovely portrait Em. Wonderful hair...

What a beautiful girl! I love her hair, but I also am in awe of the flawless job you did on her skin. You did a great job on the drawing of her face too - this is just lovely!

Thank you Thank you one and all :):)
I appreciate your kind words and the effort it takes to comment:)
Just to clear things up, that is Ellen's shirt sleeve on the right. It's a stiff fabric cotton t shirt and the sleeve extends past her shoulder. I took a look at the reference photo and I am undecided if I am going to add in her arm or not. It is NOT showing in the photo and I'm worried that if I add it in it will look "strange" to me. I have left the decision up to Ellen and she is thinking on it. :)
A big shout out to a new WC member - missrain WELCOME Madi :) It's great to see a fellow Albertan on the board :)
thanks for peeking

I didn't notice the sleeve until you mentioned it. I think the portrait is just right the way it is.
She is very pretty and I am not just talking about the rainbow hair either:D Probably give her ideas when she gets older LOL!
