Thanks to ‘penninknoil’ for the picture of the pink (my favourite) rose. I think I’ve finally done a rose I’m happy with. Just want to see what you think and then I might do a few of these until I get comfortable with painting roses. Any and all comments are most welcome.

This is pretty Jan. I've only painted 2 large roses, and a postcard with roses...they are not easy to do.....needless to say...I won't be posting either of my large ones....lol

I think you have done a beautiful job capturing the form of the rose. I can almost feel the delicacy of the petals. But, I would like to see more mid-tones to give the petals a rounder appearance. You are definitely on the right track though! Good work!

You've gotten closer to a beautiful rose than I ever have! LOL

I agree...

your buds and leaves are beautifully shaped as well... A little more variation in your values and you have a winner!!!

I agree with others - needs a touch more mid-values and it's done. A lovely, delicate rose. Well done!

I agree with all that has been said...Needs mid values to give it the dimension.
However, that aside, I love your delicacy and I think this is a grand attempt at a beautiful rose....WD!

Thanks for all the helpful advice on this one. I'll work on varying those values. There seem to be lots of roses being painted so I have plenty of inspiration and guidance. Thanks a lot.

So glad the photographer likes it too!
