Good Afternoon all........
Well I'm no Alan (the gentleman that does trains so well), I'm the other al.......so afraid I didn't do this ol' guy the justice he really deserves.... but i was intrigued with the colors and shapes....
The old engine has been put out to pasture which is a pity.....and the great photo was done by Maria B over in Photography.....and she was kind enough to share it.

This one is half sheet on Arches with WN paints.......

As always your comments, suggestions, or critiques are most welcome........

Excellent rendering Al!! I especially like the bottom front.....where the "Cow......something" would be. There is a specific name but can't come up with the whole term :p

Always love your use of colors and boldness

"Cowcatcher" is the term, Annetta!:D

Al, this is great and it is in YOUR wonderful style! I love Alan's trains, but that's HIS style. You are both very talented!

The colors scream--old and abandoned.

Al... your retired engine looks... well... retired!!! This is beautiful and begs the audience to wonder where it's been, how hard it worked and all the other fascinating things that happen with trains... I don't think it's fair to compare one style with another... Both styles are beautiful in their own rite...

I love this!!!

I like the comp and colors very much. I like the light green to the right side as well - but I'd like a dark base/foundation for the train myself - something rough and on the verge of abstract... that's me - thanks for sharing this nice pic.

So sad that this wonderful engine will never be used again. You did a great job with the image.

Brilliant Al the colour and detail are tremendous, gives the loco a solid but dignified look. Thank you for the compliment but this is an extremely powerful portrayal of a fine piece of machinery, I hope you are very pleased with it-------------very well done---------------Alan

Love the colors and the shadows of your choo choo train. If the old train is not painted by an ol' guy, it wont look this beautiful old.;) Great work Al !

Hi Al,

Lovely painting of an old workhorse put out to pasture. Your colors are wonderful as usual and the darks and shadows make them sing out. Great job.

Al! What a surprising diversion from your usual subject matter - and you've rendered it very nicely! The age comes through really well - you've maintained excellent perspective (I go nuts trying to draw stuff like this). Great light and shadow - I love it!

BTW I'll mail your portrait as soon as I find an appropriate mailer. Wouldn't want to bend that used paper, don't you know.:)
