Attached is a pen and ink with watercolor. The work turned out O.K. except for the clouds. Any suggestions for improved clouds?

Looks great I love old cities, I think it doesn't need the clouds as there is enough going on already but that doesn't help you with this work sorry.

Welcome to P&I! You're right -- this is very nice, except maybe for the clouds. And even those aren't bad -- just probably too detailed. They take your attention away from the city.
I personally find clouds hard to do in ink. But there are others here who do a fantastic job -- I just wanted to say hi. :D

Great cityscape Jerry!! The only suggestion I could give you about the clouds is maybe try to render them using the stippling technique. This will give you a softer looking cloud. :D:)

Slatter, very nice. I especially like the colors and shading on the foreground buildings. Sorry can't help with the clouds issue. I also think they are a little either numerous or to defined, but not much. I wouldn't mess up my pic trying to fix, althoug, that is probably what I would do:rolleyes:

Very nice cityscape!! I agree with the others...maybe lessen the detail in the clouds so they don't stand out so much. Welcome to the Pen & Ink forum!!

Well, another "me too" voice - great cityscape. I think that rather than detail the clouds at all, I would have just "suggested" them with the watercolors. I agree that there is enough going on in the drawing that distinct clouds do not add anything.
I like it. Even the clouds ;) :D

Thanks for the suggestions. The consensus seems to be softer, less detailed clouds. I will have to practice that, especially the idea of stippling, because it will likely come up again in another work.

Don't know how you done the clouds,
but if you only used watercolor, you can achieve very soft looking clouds.
If I find the clouds to strong, I use a stiffer bristled brush with water & gently soften using a soft tissue as well. Work well for me. I try to always do wet into wet for sky & clouds.
But I can't help you with ink.
You can't rub ink out.
