Hi all, finally, patiently, I made my first WIP
Ref picture taken from a Sothebys catalog of european 19's.
This is a Danish oil paiter, very very detailed, so I took the freedom of using the subject and performing my way.

wip01 started with a pencil light sketch an prepared basic colours, the washed zones to reference.

wip02: puttin some values warming yellows, cooling greens
I used the same brush (sable # 9) just because.

wip03: more values to feel the contrast, all this was very quick, may be anxiuous to see what is going to happen

Wonderful painting Alex!! I love how you put from start to finish in one post. Being a relatively newbie, and trying to not be afraid of those "darks", this is an excellent example of how those "darks" make things just 'pop'.

Great job!!

I agree with Bethany, those shadows really make the painting lively, and your trees are wonderful! Good job Jijo!

Very pretty landscape--love the rusty colors.

It's amazing how the move from WIp4 to 5 really made the whole painting come alive.

Oh God, how many people to thank,
nice comments, very encouraging,
none critiques?? also needed to improve, be cruel, I am hard.

I also learned a lot by making this step by step cause it gives you time to time perspective, I use to paint from start to finish, now I see the importance of taking a break, wip4 to 5 I agree is Wow with just a few brush strokes.

Thanks takinbananas (love your nick), pampe, kpprt. Alan, Laura, Sandy, CharM, Arthur, Carolyn; Al, Dolores and Olga.

you've achieved a nice feeling of warmth - and as mentioned, it's amazing how a few shadows can enhance a painting!
