Hay gang!

On Wed evening I get out of the house with my Mom and have my girls night out so to speak. We usably got to our local Ceramics place (called Kokopelli arts http://www.kokopelliarts.ca/) We mostly just paint bisque but the more I hang around there the more they like to get me to do other things. Like the tiles I carved. Well now the got me hooked on Raku. (ask if you don't know what it is) Anyway one night they gave me a hunk of clay and said sculpt something for the next Raku session. OK I'm game to try anything at least once. SO here is what I sculpted with the raku clay. All three took just under 2 hours to do. Not ment to be realistic just fast and drity ;)

Raku is a way of firing clay pieces where instead of using a tradional kiln and slow firing it you use a Raku kiln AKA a barrel with a tiger torch. When the glaze starts to "fire" you take it out of the kiln and put it into a garbage can that has shredded papers or dried leaves, and leave it there for about 2-7 min. then there are taken out of the garbage cans and emirsed in water. Putting it in the paper of leaves changed the chemical comp of the glazes creating some funky effects. Here is some of the one's I did at their last Raku firing, and a pic of the kiln:

WIth Raku you just never know what you are going to get. Like the white cratering like that very odd but I like it.

Something worth putting on your wall at home! That's a point how do you fix some form of hanger onto the backs?
