View Full Version : Tiger -- Pastel Pencil

This is my second pastel painting. Using Faber Castell PITT Pastel Pencils and not sure what kind of paper. It's a sketch book 5 x 7 that says it's excellent for all dry media. Even though I've signed this, critiques and comments encouraged and welcomed!

I like the soft look of the fur you've gotten with the pastel pencils!

I love pieces where tigers are being tigers. It's a great capture of that. Wonderful work!

Great expression on his face...

The only thing I might have done was to move his leg out from under his chin and further to the left a bit.

I love how it looks like he is peering out of the painting at you!

Well done on managing a 5 x 7 in pastel pencil, I find that very difficult, love the pose and glare, keep em coming:cat:

I like this a lot.. I wonder if he might pop out a little better if you were to darken the background a few shades? This is nicely done though, especially for a smaller size work. As Lexy said, keep em coming!!

Thanks Nicki!
Faelynn thanks! That's a great idea! Since this is the first background I've ever done wasn't sure what to do! Not even close to the zoo background from the reference photo

Thanks FaeLynn! I've got a lot to learn :)

Thank you ncgirl for your lovely comment :)
The angle and pose are complements of our awesome RIL. Taken by justchaos, I just drew in a little bit more :)

Thank you very much Chammi :)
I just completed a horse and posted it in S&W now I'm onto an orange tabby with an interesting perspective. My first Pastel commission  I will be doing the WIP in the soft pastel gallery.

Love the detail you have managed to put into this Peggy. I have never tried working on such small paper.

Great work !!

Thank you Jimmie, Tony and Karen for looking and commenting on my Tiger. I appreciate the input from all of you :) I just may have to pull this drawing back out and darken that background but I usually don't touch a work after I've signed it. Otherwise, I'd never be done with anything
